…Gettysburg Reunion "The 1913 Gettysburg Reunion was an event held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of its namesake battle. The engagement, considered the turning point of the American Civil War, involved 93,921 Union troops and 71,669 Confederates, and came about as a result of Gen. Robert E. Lee hoping to secure a win north of the Mason-Dixon Line. However, such a victory wasn't meant to be, with the Union Army defeating Lee's men in the bloodiest battle of the conflict. Some 50 years later, veterans who served on both sides converged on the battlefield to metaphorically – and literally – bury the hatchet…"
