I was asked at the last minute to drop by a teenage youth group and demonstrate some fantasy role-playing. They said they might get 8 kids at most – there were a dozen! I brought with me some dice and some pre-painted D&D plastic figures. I gave a quick history of frpgs, told the kids to pick a figure, and I ran them on a simple dungeon explore. Kept it quick, fudged the rules, gave them a taste of gaming. I had a blast, I think the kids had a good time, even the non-player adults seemed to enjoy watching.

"The first one's free, kid".

Oh, I guess that's 40K, not D&D.

Anyway, that sounds like a great way to spend a few hours!

That reminds me of my first D&D games: we massacred the rules at first, because they were really complex, at the time, and we were learning them from the book not from someone who had experience with them!

KISS: Keep It Super Simple, at first. You can teach them the nuts and bolts, later, once they're addicted -- I mean, once they discover how much fun it is to play. Yeah, that's it: fun to play.

"Hey Kid: don't tell your parents how much the rulebooks cost, and never tell them how much time you spend playing 'dis game! See you at the next session, Kid. LOL!" Cheers!

Good to read. You gotta get 'em started young, even if it was fantasy.

Great way to introduce the next generation of gamers to the hobby!
