I saw this on a Ukraine video where the Ukraines had run out of grenades so threw doen bee hives into a bunker. Alas they did not show the result. So do your rules cover this? Ours don't and I don't think they ever will. First off I am not designing 3D bee hives for such an occational use. What about you?

QILS covers pushing objects, so, yes, it covers "throwing beehives down into bunkers".

QILS also does have rules for hazardous terrain, so you could use that to represent the effect of an "activated" beehive.

There is no rule for transforming one thing (like a beehive) into something else (like hazardous terrain). You would have to glue them together with a scenario specific rule .

I would probably go with something like "When a beehive is attacked (a push is a type of close combat attack), it has a 1 in 6 chance of becoming d3 hazardous terrain, the chance increasing by 1 in 6 each round after the first attack."

This would cover the risk of taking a beehive from a tree and having it "activate" while you are getting it to the target. It would also allow someone to have a tactical truck of beehives that could be safely driven up and discharged with minimal risk. And it covers the case where it doesn't "activate" when desired, and the target has an opportunity to lob it back at you. Or maybe they just get a chance to run.

It's in Strategy and Tactics' "Scrimmage" game. It was so popular, they also worked it into "Borodino" and "7th Fleet".

Every Southern boy knows that a hornets nest is way worse than a beehive anyway.

Various versions of this story, but the British annoyed several beehives at the battle of Tanga in German East Africa in 1914. The bees chased them away. The problem is that, unless humans bring chemicals or smoke, we really aren't equipped to do much about bees other than wave our arms about and run away.

Grelber beat me to it! The bee's don't have any allegiance to any side. IIRC, at Tanga, they chased BOTH sides away! IIRC, the British left quite a significant amount of supplies on the beach as the troops made haste to return to the ships! Great stuff!

It's a great idea. Now I want to write rules to cover this.

No. My rules cover close assaults. I never wanted to game out being a squad leader.

My ancient galley rules include throwing beehives and snakes at enemy ships :)
