For those who like the idea of conducting military campaigns, I have finished the map of 17th century Germany. It is now available at this blog, courtesy of the esteemed Anton Ryzbak:

You can also contact me directly at my email,

gallocelt@yahoo.com

if you would rather have me email you the map. Please make sure that your email allows you to receive images that are 8.1 M. The map measures about 2 feet by three feet and is overlaid with a hex pattern to facilitate movement and measurement for simulated military campaigns. I hope a few out there will find it useful.

Cheers!

Wow! This is gorgeous. I have a great interest in, and 5 armies for, the 30 Years' War but I fear my computer skills are not up to downloading it properly. Many thanks to Gallocelt and Anton for making it available.

Hi Shagnasty,

I believe you just right click on the picture, and select "save image as". Your "save image" dialog box will come up. The file should say, "Germany Map 17th Centuy Lo 02.jpg". Then just pick what folder on your hard drive you want to save to, and click "save".

Cheers!

This is simply beautiful! I am considering having it printed out by a local print-shop just to hang on the wall until I decide what campaign to run on it.

Hi Ian,

I'm glad you are liking the map. Someone suggested that the border I made between Denmark and what is now Germany doesn't really reflect the political realities of the 17th century. I am already considering releasing a revision that would not have that border. Also, apparently there was an important road going north out of Hamburg. Now I am trying to find out more about the road. I would like to include it, but I've yet to find it on any of the old maps I've used as reference.

Thanks again for your interest and compliments.

Cheers!

Perhaps you should just leave the borders away.

Both Switzerland and the United Provinces did not officially part from the HRE until the peace of Westfalia, and Austria remained part of it.

I noted that you already left the border to France open, probably because that moved in quite a bit from the 16th to the 18th century.
