* in reality, a task avoidance strategy – I can't face painting more Austrian Napoleonic infantry

As always, nice figure painting and basing combined with great background information.

@kentucky pd:

This book has a chapter on Ireland – good background on the Irish Confederacy; also explains a lot about the kooky wars and politicking of the 17thC:

Amazon – Global Crisis Climate Catastrophe 17th C – Geoffrey PARKER 2013

Thanks for the kind words S'nasty. I'm afraid I'm running out of stuff to paint.

Stoppage, I'm assuming that you mean me when you @Kentucky PD. I do use the initials KYPD, as in Keep Your Powder Dry, certainly not a reference to a police force in the former colonies 😉

Thanks for the book recommendation, but I have to say that I think Parker's hypothesis is tenuous to say the least.

Until I realized what board this is, I was going to say, that Confederate officer looks like an ECW figure and I didn't know there was an entire Confederate Brigade of Irish Catholic soldiers.

Old Contemptible, blimey the Irish are complicated during the Wars of the 3 Kingdoms.
There's an Irish Brigade that fought in Scotland, then numerous armies that fought in Ireland (often against one another).

Old Contemptible, blimey the Irish are complicated during the Wars of the 3 Kingdoms.

Fighting on both sides is so 16th Century – we Irish have perfected the concept of fighting on both sides AND having a third side all to ourselves.
