After independence from Mexico, Texas had a very liberal land policy. Basically, "If you survey it, and map it, it's yours!" It was of course more complicated than that. The Comanche of course understood the implications of this, and would kill Surveyors whenever they encountered them. Gruesomely, as was their wont. The famous Texas Rangers Jack Hays was a Surveyor before he joined the Rangers. And of course, George Washington was a Surveyor before he started the Seven Years War. 🙄 Anyway, does anyone make 28mm surveyors, with all their equipment? Even just the equipment. |

Scratch building a transit shouldn't be insurmountable. All it takes is a tripod with a telescope thingie. Toss in a few bits of paper (maps) and crates for the gear to drive the point home and you are ready. All I know about surveying is standing far away with an oversized yard stick in my hand and getting yelled at. So forgive me. |

Maybe a heliograph set (Zulu wars range?) could be modified? At least, as equipment. |
