CASTLE WEASEL HAS FALLEN!!!! I just finish running the battle using miniatures ( 1mini to 1 man, 1 troll mini to 1 troll, and Yes 6 Ogre Mini's for the 6 ogres!!

Page 75 Monster Manual- Ogres speak troll and mingle freely with Trolls The 3 trolls and 6 ogres got together and made a night time raid on Castle Weasel. Using miniatures and a 3d printed fortification I had 30 or your men on guard while the rest slept in safety. ( not sleeping in armor) you cant really do that on a continous basis. THe horses in the pen area in the corner with the little entrance. About 10+ men near the trench area, some men near the front gate (walls) and at least 2 men in each corner walls/ towers area.

Round 1 the trolls lead the attack, 2 coming across the trench/ future wall area with 3 ogres( not able to attack yet) in tail, the other troll and 3 ogres go to the front gate area. I am not sure the condition of the front gate, so I said the could not get in ( to your advantage). but that troll took a couple arrow hits.
The trolls took some damage, kill a total of 3 men and 3 men flee while the rest stayh to fight. The trumpet player sounds the alarm ( that is the instrument the mini has)

Rnd 2 men start waking up ( have no armor on, and have no idea of what is happening) The troll at the front gate smells the horses, and abandons attacking the gate, and goes for the gap to get to horses the trolls take some damage ( in almost down almost 60%, the other 30% but the trolls kill 5 more men and a couple the remaining men hold strong and keep fighting. some of the men have armed with helm/ sheild and weapons and the rest continue armoring up.

Rnd 3 ogres in the horse pen area kill 3 horses while the troll moves thru to enter combat but isnt able to attack this rnd, the trolls kill 2 morn and 8 more men flee in panic

Rnd 4 the ogres kill 4 more men and the trolls kill 4 more men, while more men flee

Rnd 5 Roger the Hammer gets into the combat but gets surrounded by trolls and ogres as the men around him flee ( not helping him) takes 6 hits ( Not sure his hp so I said he went down ( didnt shake dmg. anyway, even if he fled, he cant outrun the trolls, as they have mv 12" and I assume 9" for him if he got his chainmail on, assuming thats what he wore.

In the end, all of your horsemen live, but all horses are kill by trolls, 15 of your H Inf excaped ( from the sleepere) 3 archers escape with that group, and 4 other archers and H. Inf men escaped into the dark on their own. Your other PC's escape with the fleeing men as they see its useless to try to fight in the dark.

In the after math, the Trolls/ ogres kill the rest of the horses, and that is where I leave it to you. You can decide where they take the loot, or whether they stay in the castle. you can also decide how many of your men that flee you are able to find the next morning, and whether the trolls and ogres try to hunt you down or not.

Note I used average HP for all men at arms giving them 6 hp each, AC7 for Lt inf, AC4 for H inf, AC7 for archers. trolls had 33 hp ave, and ogres 19 hp . I rolled random dmg for all hits and applied to each miniagure.

I gave -5 for less then a month enlisted, -5 newly recruited regulars, I gave no alignment bonus or pay bonus assuming average pay. while morale played a role, those trolls will killing men with ease, and most only took 1 hit to be killed

I will post a few pictures on TMP ( the miniture page in a day or two showing the setup) and will give instruction to find in another post here

My miniatures were a combination of 15mm from BattleValorGames, Museum Miniatures and Demon world, and 3d printed for the trolls. I was going to use 15mm trolls ( 3d printed) but they did not look like 1e trolls, so I use some 28mm 3d printed trolls in their stead, and 28mm for 3 of the PC, but they did not come till later, and played no real roll, other then the one getting killed

The front gate are seem unassaultable so lets go get the horses.

Not Castle Weasel! The bastion of the North??!!

But seriously, nice battle report and I like flipping the script on the typical siege scenario, with outnumbered defenders versus the attacking horde. A handful of super-tough assaulters versus a desperate, scrambling garrison of normals makes an interesting tactical problem.

Here is the link to the Youtube channel running this. Good to see someone running AD&D ( as intended). He asked for people to run a battle trying to take out the trolls, it seems I am second to the party

Will see if he takes these results, as the battle someone else ran can fit the story. He took his army into the swamp, and apparently killed one of the trolls. So obviously, the trolls and Ogres whom he had tried to bribe to leave counter-attacked. The 500 gold he gave the ogres was just a incitement to come get them, and then when they trolls were discovered, well the logical thing is for them to get together and get more loot for them selves.

Here it the link to the battle run the day before by someone else.

So part of the logic of this battle is, all those men had been in combat the day befor, tired, worn out, ( I did not know this at the time I ran my battle.) Based on what had happened before hand, he would have had even less men. I had all the horsemen and about half of the heavy foot infantry and the PC leaders all sleeping. It takes time to wake up, figure out what is happening, don armor and react. He even stated that his PC's were now managers, letting his Level 0 men do all the work. All of these men were only recently hired on top of it all. Had his Level 6 figher and his other PC be in the battle to start with, with all his other men, maybe the results would have been different, but most likely they would have killed the trolls, then started to battle the ogres, at which point the trolls regenerate, then they all die anyway. as it happened at least his other PC escaped with about half of his men. and perhaps he will make another attempt at Castle Weasel , the Bastion of the North. But this time, without Steiner, who passed away, killed by mostly the ogres, but also the trolls.

So the next question, why did Stiener step into the belly of the beast, all those trolls and ogres? by him doing such It allowed the rest of the men time to flee the Castle, via the gate, the reality is, Stiener died a hero!
