Wednesday Night at the Fights Play Test the BoFA using a Dragon Warmaster Rampolution Solution (i.e., a Home Rules Mashup) or DWR. We called it a draw after 6 hours of playing, but that was enough to know that it can be done/was a lot of fun.

What a great project and battle report!! I was in a Time Machine while reading your report as I owned almost all of those figures back in the day. I was in high school when the first LOTR film came out and I bought as many figures as a young lad could buy from that Heritage range. I wish I had kept them but I sold them off long ago. I felt looking at your images of a game from 1980!! Just great!! Thank you!

Well. That was simply wonderful. It has a very Middle-Earthy feel to it.

Epic game! Thanks for sharing. Played out the BOFA many years ago, with a large group, using a horde of figures, as well. Great game, great table setup, oodles of figures, beautiful terrain. Love it. Cheers!

Thanks so much for the complementary commentary, gents! PaulRPetri… Some of us collected way too much lead in the 1970s and various other now defunct decades. If you were to zoom in (double click) on the second to last photo in the BoFA blog, you can even discern the figure I was using for Bolg (just in front of the Elan Merch Uruk Hai units with the rams head helms). He is from the Earth of Old set Released by Jim Oden in 1975:"Large Orc Attacking with Scimitar"(thank you Lost Minis Wiki). That is the 1st mini me and my brother ever bought, even older than the Tom Meier goblins (old Ral Partha) and such. No armor on that sculpt, but he had to be the boss goblin.

Looks like fun.

B5A is hard to balance and re-create in any system.

I'd be tempted to try a mini-campaign and introduce some what-ifs to mix it up and give players some more choices pre-battle.

I love it!!! Brings back memories of our LOTR battles at the Tin Soldier back in the 70's and 80's. We'd arrive early to base our troops for that day's game on Saturdays. I usually played Dwarves or Rohan. Two brothers had a huge Custom Cast Orc/Goblin army. Mine was also Custom Cast. But as the Heritage LOTR figs were released the armies kept growing. I was very fond of that period in my life.
