I recently had a procedure done and ended up needing to spend the day in bed.

While resting I watched (with napping) three movies.

1) Lifeforce
2) Flesh and Blood
3) Dogs of War

Really enjoyed them all.

What three would you have chosen?

William Warner19 Feb 2025 11:42 a.m. PST

The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (my all-time favorite)
A Bridge Too Far (great action movie)
Sgt. York (haven't seen it in years but I love Gary Cooper)

Wackmole919 Feb 2025 12:20 p.m. PST

1 The Searchers
2 Guns Of Navarone
3 Raiders of the lost Ark

True Grit (either version but probably the Jeff Bridges one)

Die Hard

Star Gate

Tough to narrow it down to three, but here goes:

1. The 13th Warrior
2. Serenity
3. The Mummy 1999

Very hard choices, but I just watched:
On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Burn
Maximum Overdrive

I also recently re-watched The Dogs of War, it was way better than I remembered from the 70's. Not as good as the book, but rarely do I find that happens. Still, a very good watch.

If I were sick tomorrow and had to chose three movies, right now I would go for:

LOTR: Fellowship
The Magnificent Seven
Battle of Britain

Starship Troopers (1)
Robocop
The Last Starfighter

Picking three is tough. I'd probably go with -

Casablanca
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Elevator to the Gallows, French Noir with a soundtrack by Miles Davis.

Last time I was confined to bed for a medical reason I had so much morphine being pumped into me I would have napped off after 5 mins regardless of how many movies I could have blitzed through but would probably choose any of the first seven Bond movies.

All great choices!
I could only add Kelly's Heros!

I'd say that was a pretty good choice :)

Depends a lot on the day. For dialogue
Lion in Winter (O'toole/Hpeburn)
The Wind and the Lion
Casablanca

For mindless entertainment, Raiders of the Lost Ark and the first two Brendan Frasier "Mummy" movies. Nothing like danger, romance and lost cities in the desert.

Lots of good choices on the thread.

Raiders of the Lost Ark
Kelly's Heros
Empire strikes back

And a thanks to all that jogged my memory.

Hmmm, it is a hard choice, I think I would go with three old war movies from my childhood:
Pork Chop Hill
Sgt. York
Run Silent, Run Deep

smithsco19 Feb 2025 9:40 p.m. PST

The Searchers
Last of the Mohicans
Wind River

Tough call. It would depend partially on what kind of mood I was in. Possibilities include:

Kelly's Heroes
101 Dalmatians
Master and Commander
Something with John Wayne -- maybe The Shootist
The Enemy Below
Zulu

Choctaw20 Feb 2025 8:37 a.m. PST

13 Hours (that's right Hillary, we haven't forgotten)
Monte Walsh (Tom Selleck's version, my oh my)
April Morning

Personal logo Murphy Sponsoring Member of TMP20 Feb 2025 9:28 a.m. PST

Possibilities:
1: Darby O' Gill and the Little People
2: Highlander
3: The Wild Geese
4: Casablanca
5: Bram Stokers Dracula
6: The Green Berets
7: The Last of The Mohicans
8: Any of the POTC movies
9: The Quiet Man
10: ST II The Wrath of Khan

Dennis20 Feb 2025 2:34 p.m. PST

Choctaw, "Nobody sits a horse like Monte Walsh."

I like Selleck's and Marvin's versions, for different reasons.

Marvin's Walsh: "I ain't spitting on my whole life"

21eRegt20 Feb 2025 8:59 p.m. PST

Waterloo
A Bridge Too Far
Zulu

Honorable Mention:
She Wore a Yellow Ribbon
Battle of Britain
The Longest Day

Annie B23 Feb 2025 8:51 p.m. PST

Possibilities:
Adventures of Robin Hood (Errol Flynn version)
The Searchers
Gunga Din
Beau Geste (Gary Cooper)
The Crimson Pirate (Burt Lancaster)
The Dam Busters
Twelve O'Clock High

Yow! What a tough question. Really, it would all hinge upon my mood at the time, whatever I felt like then, cause our movie library is very extensive and various things are always in and out of rotation or on queue.

FWIW -- The last time I had to sit in bed for a day or two, however, and was wanting to pass some idle time with films or music -- and this was some years ago -- I opted for Gettysburg and Gods & Generals because they eat up a ton of hours and were on the rota at the time; and I also listened to the Beatles BBC CD collections. But the next time this happens, it will be entirely different I know. I might want cartoons, or old musicals, or something entirely different from war movies or dramas.
