..TMP?

Tried to get on to the Fez and all you get is "timed out cannot connect". I know TMP is using dated technology and if this keeps up your going to find someone will start a state of the art forum that has a lot of goodies that are becoming standard.

What worked in the 90's won't attract new gamers in the 20's. And with that a whole group lot of new viewpoints and ideas won't become available to the current members. AS it is, youtube is becoming the go to source for a lot of this information.

My opinion and you are free to disagree with it. But if you do try to include some ideas on how to improve the situation.

I believe TMP is migrating to a new server and there are some issues.

Two things I would love to see are "drop and drag" for images and an inmate count on the DH.

See my thread about pictures etc being replaced with the blue [?] box.
There are 3 on this page alone.
I just came to the front page, and the Cigar Box Mat picture was [?], along with all personal icons, etc.
I hit REFRESH, and the picture for CBM came back, but the rest was still the same.

EDIT: Oh, and I was informed that "this site is insecure" and did I really want to Submit? I got the same message when I came back to Edit. 🤷

"What worked in the 90's won't attract new gamers in the 20's."

IMO, forums are passé now. "Everyone" is a member of a Facebook group(s) etc. I think the Golden Age of wargame forums is past.

NB whether my observation is correct or not, there are clearly a reasonable number of us, including myself, who prefer tmp.
Whether Bill wants to add 'bells & whistles' is up to him but I don't think it will have a huge effect on membership.

StoneMtnMinis,
Yes, the forum is most certainly dated and could use a more user friendly format. That said, I can look at our group website numbers and tell you that TMP is most certainly a forum that is read and generates traffic to our site. It does that in fairly good numbers.

You know that challenges of running a business in this hobby as well as anyone else as I did during my time in it. TMP has its problems to be sure, but it is still read by a good number.

Never been on Facebook and doubt I ever will.

Facebook is a national security risk. If you go to FB I am out.

First I've heard of this bug. Will ask them to check on it.

I believe TMP is migrating to a new server and there are some issues.

Our hosting service moved us to a new data center, and things are not going well. Should have been a simple procedure, but somehow…

See my thread about pictures etc being replaced with the blue [?] box.

I can't reproduce this one. Works fine for me, so hard to debug from here.

I'm told TMP is getting a 'new certificate', perhaps there is a transition period?

I love TMP just the way it is.

Steamingdave216 Feb 2025 10:24 a.m. PST

TMP has its issues, but what I like is that it is possible to easily access discussions from years ago that answer questions I have now. Try doing that on Facebook!

Grattan54-- +2!

And I will enter FB over my own dead body.

Not sure how to do that, but….

It is TMP or nothing for me.

TimePortal16 Feb 2025 11:56 a.m. PST

I do both TMP and Facebook. I had issues with bot over the years. But I plan to keep using both.

Oh yes times and the target audience has changed since I started doing this in 1983. I have never had a problem with Dave at Stone Mountain. In the 1980s gamers got their items mainly from stores and at conventions.then in the 1990s sales shifted to direct from manufacturer.

Well, this post generated more than the normal number of responses, and it didn't even contain politics!

When we, Stone Mountain, have a major update or change to the web site, we announce it 3 to 5 days in advance. Then we take the site offline until we are sure the changes/upgrades are working correctly before we go live again.

That way we don't have customers complaining that something isn't working and wondering whats wrong with the site. It saves a lot of time responding to emails making excuses for why things don't work. And we have never had anyone complain about it.

Just a suggestion to avoid the WFT posts the next time Bill changes something.

TMP is fine for me, not Facebook.

It would be nice to make it easier to post images.

Over the years, I've read "obituaries" for this place from many….shall we call them 'wishful thinkers'?

TMP is still here. Possibly when the current denizens have all shuffled off to that great wargame in the sky, it'll fold. That should be no time soon. But I'd like to end with an oldy but a goody – "The reports of TMP's death are greatly exaggerated."

Shagnasty Supporting Member of TMP16 Feb 2025 7:23 p.m. PST

Facebook is out for me for many reasons so I hope TMP stays true to its school.

Might be time to close the Fez, it is not getting much use. Could bring the board back to one of our other forums, probably the off-topic forum.
