Interesting move -- classic Trump. he's "anchoring" -- framing the conversation for a deal by setting out an upper value limit of normalized relations and deep defense cuts. Speaking at the White House, the president said the United States could slice defense spending in half at some point in the future. He made the comments while discussing possible talks with China and Russia about defense spending."At some point, when things settle down, I'm going to meet with China and I'm going to meet with Russia, in particular those two, and I'm going to say there's no reason for us to be spending almost $1 USD trillion on the military," Trump said. "One of the first meetings I want to have is with President Xi of China and President Putin of Russia, and I want to say let's cut our military budget in half. And we can do that, and I think we'll be able to do that." link link |

Hmm, slash defence spending and trust the Chinese. Can you imagine if Biden had said that! Ah, but this is Trump so a very carefully thought-out statement that reflects the opening gambit in some kind of long-term deal. Or something. |

LOL! How amazing – the "warmonger" proposes global peace and a 50% reduction in defense spending and you hate him for it. He's making the Big Ask, floating out a vision for diplomacy. Sometimes it's more direct, like, saying he'd hate to blast Iran to smithereens…sometimes more like this. Remember how he engaged North Korea? It was wild -- he did a sales pitch and presented a vision of a prosperous and respected North Korea, and Trump even CROSSED THE DMZ INTO NORTH KOREA at Panmunjom! It was working so well that Kim Jong-Un signed a letter of friendship and accepted an invite to the White House…he was on his way when Xi ordered him to Beijing, he went radio silent for a week and came back from Beijing singing the praises of Communism and how bad mean evil Trump was a poopyhead! Almost worked. So as the song goes, "all we are saying, is give peace a chance…" |

"Sure, dismantle the regular military, and then Musk will reveal the private army he is building. Coup d'etat anyone?" Musk🤔 Well we all know Genghis Khan's last name had 4 letters. Who can forget Khan from Star Trek? then there was the Marquis de Sade and John Wayne Gacy! All 4 letters!! Then there's this "I have heard it said, by several scholars, that every trinity implies an unstated fourth entity. In Christianity that fourth entity is called Satan. Want proof, look at the cross, in the sky is the trinity, the three points of the cross; however, without the fourth point that touches the ground the three would never be able to ascend to the heavens. Or consider the clover, that symbol of the trinity so loved by St. Patrick. How would we ever have the three leaves without the stem which provides to the leaves all the necessary conditions of life -apart of course from the energy of the sun. What should this tell us about Satan as a concept?" Then we have: "While not traditionally considered an unlucky number, 4 has in recent times, gained an association with bad luck because of its pronunciation, predominantly for the Cantonese. The belief that the number 4 is unlucky originated in China, where the Chinese have avoided the number since ancient times." 🤔 the word Musk, well in slang, colloquial, vulgar) The scent of human genitalia when aroused or unwashed There are many who oppose him who seemed to be aroused! I'm sure somehow we can make an association to 666 if we work hard enough. Egads man!! You may be onto something!! 😧 😮😱 We should follow the holy mantra: "When in trouble and in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout!!!" |

OK, I gotchya. His methods worked in the past, resulting in no new US-involved wars during his first Admin, the destruction of ISIS, and the historic peace deals in the Middle East and Balkans. Oh, and Trump's engagements with Putin include the Battle of Khasham in Syria when Assad troops, supported by a Wagner Group battalion attacked a US FOB. The result was a dead Wagner Group battalion. |

Yeah, but the US 50% reduction in defense spending is going to come from cutting out a lot of waste & fraud (and the remaining 50% is going to be fine-tuned & made even more efficient.) Not going to happen but anything that revives the START process and other nuclear reduction efforts is a good thing. Now we will offer to surrender that based on a deal with the Chinese and the Russians? This is a pipe dream, I hope. We saw how the art of the deal worked with the Taliban.I know there is a lot of hot air. The chaos is likely meant to distract us from the power shift from Congress to the Executive they are engineering via Project 25. But this is a bridge too far right now. How about a few more weeks in office first? Vance and Hegseth had trouble getting on the same page in Europe. Maybe more time on the job needed before these big ideas are floated? |

"And at least the previous guy understood how the world works as opposed to the current occupant and his playmates." Only in an alternate reality. 'nuff said. OVI +1 For the record, the POTUS only said the US will occupy Gaza, ec. and rebuild it only to get Egypt, Jordan, maybe the KSA, etc. to take point and rebuild Gaza, etc. So many here and elsewhere don't get how new POTUS works/does business. The last POTUS and admin really didn't have the right stuff. Their SOP was fear of escalation and being risk adverse. And our enemies knew it and used it against the US. sn't the US Defence budget's primary used is to create well paid jobs in marginal seats? If it's halved, isn't there a huge negative impact to the economy? No and no … but one can believe as they will. The US has to rebuild the Military after the gross mishandling of the last 4 years … Vance and Hegseth had trouble getting on the same page in Europe. Regardless of rookie mistakes or not. There is still a lot going on. Frankly watching how Hegseth leads from the front going to where the troops are. And they respect him as he was an Infantry Officer, lead an Infantry Plt and Commanded an Infantry Co. He has not only and EIB but a CIB. Plus two Bronze Stars. As well as was part of the guard force at Gitmo. The Troops understand and respect someone who did the same things they did. Been to the same places they have been. Saw combat … Since Dec. the US Army after being mismanaged from the very top. Recruiting has gone up markedly. The recruits and troops see the new POTUS is not like the last one. The POTUS, VP, SecDef, etc. is bring the Military back from the ashes. Doing somethings the last Admin had no idea of what and how a combat ready force is created. The Armed Forces are there to defend the country, fights wars and wins. Woke progressive, global warming, Trans, LGBTQ, CRT/1619, pronouns, etc., etc. has 0 to do with training for combat. It is as if the WH, the admin, some in Congress wanted to neuter the warfighters. And our enemies are predators, and they saw that the USA's leadership had the wrong priorities, and weakened the Armed Forces. As I said ad nauseum, I was a Rifle Plt Ldr in the 101 then later a Mech Inf Co. Cdr that was part Mech of a Separate Hvy Bde. Part of the 18th ABN Corps. Plus had 22 months in the ROK with a forward deployed Mech Bn of the 2ID. Having two tours on the DMZ. Now I know I was not rare, the US Army was full of guys like me and many much better qualified and trained than I. But I think I have a pretty good working knowledge of how an Infantry unit functions, works, etc. What the last admin did to the Military and the nation in general was criminal … And I am not only one with that opinion … |

Ya Yes, this from the man who also gave us the Gulf of America and buying Gaza to turn it into a resort. I know, right? The Gulf of America is pure silly trolling, but the Gaza thing shattered all the Arab and Muslim nation BS-ery around Gaza. Trump called their bluff. He said, hey, you love the Palestinians so much, here's what we're gonna do -- each of you Arab and Muslim countries will take like, 100,000 Palestinians. Then since you don't want to do it, the US will redevelop Gaza under US management and let the good people come back in, and they'll have a better life. This signals the US no longer backs an independent Gaza, dumps on the whole "right of return" thing and freaks the Arabs out as a new possible US stronghold in the region. The response was hilarious. ALL of the Arab and Muslin states said FRUCK NO, we don't want any Palestinians. We recognize the "plight of the Palestinians" -- but from afar… very very afar. To show their solidarity with the Palestinians, Egypt is BUILDING A TALLER WALL at the Gaza border! Again – Trump's setting out a vision, anchoring, for a possible outcome that stirs the pot and opens new possibilities. As diplomacy proceeds, we'll see what happens. Nobody thought the Abraham Accords could be done. So you need to take Trump seriously, but not literally. |

Is Trump breaking laws? Well, that is a different discussion Obama killed four Americans with drone strikes without any due process as American citizens -- and one was a child who accompanied his suspected terrorist dad to a cafe and got shredded by a Hellfire missile. Murder much? Really, I think he should be arrested for war crimes, Ethnic Cleansing is not a joke its a war Crime. Hasn't happened, and why wouldn't it be called "resettlement" anyways? It's not like the Palestinians are a culture as we usually understand the term. The 1948 Arab population who largely identified as Egyptian, etc. who lived in the area created as Israel by the UN in 1948 had the choice to stay or leave. The Arab states all encouraged them to leave, promising them once they exterminated all the Jews they'd not only get their land back, but all the dead Jews' land as well. Ooops. They lost. The largely voluntarily displaced Arabs were not treated as citizens but held at arms length as the Arab states hoped they still defeat Israel. Oops, lost again! Then the USSR working with the EGYPTIAN Yasser Arafat and other Arab states CREATED the Palestinian identity as a way to fight asynchronous warfare against Israel and the West. This problem is an Arab "Frankenstein" they do not want to resolve, and which has already hit back at them as well -- like the PLO-started civil war in Jordan and assassination of their king, the civil war in Lebanon, turmoil in Tunisia, turmoil in Syria, turmoil in Egypt, aiding the Saddam regime's conquest of Kuwait. So the issue needs to be resolved. Trump threw a marker down – if this isn't resolved, maybe the US will just do it. Here's my plan -- whattya gonna do, Arab states? How do we fix this? What's your counter plan that actually does something? So far Egypt's "plan" is to build a bigger wall… |

As SB says, we'll see what happens. When it comes to 'dealing' I'm having trouble seeing how stating from the outset that Ukraine won't be allowed to join Nato, and won't be returning to their old borders, doesn't immediately put you at a disadvantage before the negotiations even begin! Then to phone the aggressor before Zelensky! Disgraceful in my opinion. But I'm sure it's all 'priming the deal' or 'anchoring something' or maybe 'framing the negotiation'. Somesuch spin. |

No it's not … And no one is joking about it. Who said anything about Ethic Cleansing ? Save for Hamas and their terrorist minions. Who were supported by Iran. They are the war criminals … Hopefully most will not survive the war they started. Is there a new definition for War Crimes and Ethnic Cleansing ? At the Advanced Infantry Officer course at Ft. Benning[now Ft. Moore], GA in'83' we had about 3-4 days alone on the topic of War Crimes, Crime Against Humanity, etc. etc. Some of the classes were taught by JAG. Guess some here must have missed those classes … Or I never saw them ? You can't arrest anyone for war crimes for what they say. Well it seems some think it is OK … Like the Tom Cruise movie about "Precrime", IIRC … What an easy thing to say, and said by so many of late. Sort of a 'get out of jail free' statement. It has been about 3-4 weeks. What laws have been broken ? I can clearly say that the Invasion of the US Borders sanctioned by the last POTUS, his admin and some in Congress. Has been all but shut down in the within the first couple of weeks. And arrests and deportations have started at full speed. And will continue for at least the next 4 years. 15-20 million illegal aliens are a whole to clean up. No, not really because we have four years of experience with how Trump does things from his first term in office. Yes many should know his MO. The Russians, Chicoms, Iran's Ayatollahs, etc. etc. will have to wear a cup now. As the US is playing major league hardball now. Tortorella | 17 Feb 2025 5:51 a.m. PST |
Yes, we do know the MO. But I don't think Trump was much of a tough guy last time and now the stakes are much more challenging to manage. My suggestion to him regarding the MO? Stop talking…just shut up with the stream of ideas nobody else is thinking about right now. Don't waste our time on renaming the Gulf of Mexico. You guys didn't like some military installations getting renamed..what is the point of this new idea? Or banning AP from the press room for not drinking this kool-aid? The border was getting a lot quieter before Trump was elected. Biden's greatest mistake among many was waiting too long to do this, IMO. The real mess he left were the millions who got in we know nothing about. Gaza-lago is a good idea? There are thousands of dead bodies lost in the rubble. It's a graveyard and billions will be needed. What happened to cutting the budget and America First? How about maybe going after Iran instead? But mostly, just give it a rest on some of the chatter and start dealing with more of the issues you were elected to handle. Rising food prices come to mind. And dismissing and demeaning our allies, with all their defects, so we are no longer presenting a unified stance against our adversaries, is not a sign of strength, IMO. It sounds more like thuggery than diplomacy. Find another way to boost European commitments. Deals are built on credible win-win scenarios. Deal with Europe, Zelensky, not just Putin. I suspect in these early days these big issues are being discussed and plans made. In the meantime, tone down the rhetoric so we can catch our breath. |

He didn't waste HIS time on renaming the Gulf of Mexico- he got YOU to waste YOUR time worrying and fretting about it- which was probably part of the point. Meanwhile, he's systematically defunding the NGO system that's a key component of what once looked like the semi-permanent DC consensus. In political terms, that matters more than anything else he's done, and based on the first targets (USAID, D-Ed), I'd say he has the funding network for his core ideological opponents mapped out pretty clearly. Shutting down Federal funding will create a financial crisis in the NGO world pretty quickly. That's probably the point: he wants them either bankrupt and liquidated, or spending the next two years worrying how to make payroll, rather than using Federal money to fundraise for his opponents. The pace is frenetic because it's almost certainly driven by the midterm calendar. The fundraising and candidate selection cycles will soon start for 2026- and he's just upended the conventional game. If he wants a friendly Congress coming out of the midterms, he has to break his opponents' fundraising capabilities before that. Otherwise, his administration breaks down into the conventional cycle of hearings, shutdowns, and probably an impeachment or two. You want a staid, conventional candidate so you can play the staid, conventional game of cherry-picking minor issues and arguing whether the dial should be set at "3" or "4". Enough people have decided they're tired of that that we got something different. Nobody says things are "paradigm-shifting" anymore, but that's kind of a shame, because that's what this is- except maybe it's paradigm-shattering. |

I Picture what Musk and Trump are fighting, to the scene in "raiders of the lost Ark", when they open the building holding the ark and ask why the floor is moving. The swamp is loaded with poisonous snakes. Case in point today: Subject: Elon Musk on X: "According to the Social Security database, these are the numbers of people in each age bucket with the death field set to FALSE! Maybe Twilight is real and there are a lot of vampires collecting Social Security 🤣🤣 t.co/ltb06VX98Z / X link Subject: Aiden HIKO | AK on X: "@elonmusk 394,943,364 but total population is 334M? t.co/TGLmoHistT / X link |

I found it interesting that no one has mentioned the fact that a vast number are probationary , less than one or two years service. For education the probationary period is three years. So if you were there it was not unusual to feel the budget axe almost every year or two. The public schools way to stay in budget. The main Trump inspiration may be the fact that all of these people were hired under the Biden Administration. Does not mean they were all Democrats. My son certainly is not. Holding my breathe since his department, defense, has not been approached yet. He was told he was no longer in probation but it is less than two years. |

Ok, yes some FAA fired last Friday. Some believe it was personal because of their political beliefs. Would I have fired some currently, no. But they didn't call me. |
