A black rule book with red lettering on the cover called Piquet Master Rules for Wargaming 2nd Edition has been staring at me for years; it has a companion with the same look called Cartouche. I now see that there is a website with numerous later editions and it is a bit confusing to me which one goes with which, etc. I want to game the mid 18th century. Does anyone know which books I need?

The Master Rules and Cartouche are all you need.

As long as you have the cards you will be able to play the game with what you have.

The other products are different games, ie: Field of Battle, Pulse of Battle.

Here is the link for the supplements you can get for the master rules.

As fgilbert2 stated you would need the Master Rules plus Cartouche 2nd edition.

Are you thinking of SYW?

I have fought dozens of SYW battles with Piquet. You can see some of them on my blog:

Thanks for the comments: I've read around a bit and it seems that the purest form of the concept is to be found in the books I have and that the subsequent editions might be a little more traditional in their approach. I will start with what I have and try to use them for the Seven Years War. Then, we will see where it goes.

Eric, I saw a photo of some nice looking cards on your blog but cannot see where I can get cards for Piquet or Cartouche on the Piquet commercial site under the shopping section. Those cards seem to be for the more recent editions.
