… Refused To Be Apart Of

"Movie scripts for war films have to get approved by the Pentagon as a precondition for the US military's assistance with those flicks. Such assistance can be valuable, so Hollywood executives have a strong incentive to tailor war films to please the US armed forces. Below are twenty five things about that, some famous movies that the Pentagon agreed to help, and others that the US military wanted nothing to do with…"

It is well known that the Army provided aid to the making of Green Beret staring John Wayne.
The Navy is well known for assisting with several movies in the 1940s and 1950s. Sink the Bismarck and the Pursuit of the Graffiti Spee. Battle of Britain, The Longest Day are more.

The writer unfortunately uses "criterion" where the correct form is "criteria". It's jarring when trying to read, although the article has some interesting stories and great photos.

Don't they have AI to catch errors like that? Clearly they don't have human editors any more.

"Attack!" was one the Army was at first excited about, even promising to provide some actual captured Wehrmacht equipment and vehicles. But when they found out what it was really about, they backed out almost completely.

It is a SUPERB film with brilliant script and performances, especially by Silver Star winner Eddie Albert, but where clearly Tiger tanks were called for (though not by name), Director Robert Aldrich had to make do with "doctored" Stuarts.

The "Wrong Tank" crowd would scoff in order to show their "knowledge" of incorrect vehicles in a film, and totally miss its point and value.

Don't let THEM keep you from watching this masterpiece!
