Looking for a good bulk Black wash. Have used GW bedab and nuln oil, as comparison. Also mixed my own or a similar variety. Anyone know some equivalent bulk washes? I see model colour has 200ml, for example. A lot cheaper than GW. A lot easier than mixing. Hoping to fill a tub at some point. Until then, just a big brush! |

YouTube is your friend. You can find dozens and dozens of videos on various types of washes. Here is one example. YouTube link |

Minwax Polyurethane Stain, Tudor, is the original Dip Technique, if that is what you are after. Get the water-based formula -- no odor when dried. Minwax is half the price of Army Painter Quick Shade. Cheers! |

I make my own. I usually make about that much for around $3 USD (black ink, water, a few drops of surface tension breaker). My "recipe" is as follows: one pot of black ink, 5 drops surface tension breaker. I put this in a bottle then fill the bottle to a line I've marked on the side. Takes about 15 seconds to make and super consistent results. |

Just use artist's inks diluted as required |

I use diluted acrylic paint. Liquitex usually. |

Army Painter Quick Shades work well and last quite a while. |

Thanks. It's kind of mix more, or just buy bulk. Both ultimately pretty cheap. Looking for litres, eventually, so I guess its mixing. Typically using GW paint (got bazillions) some flow and Matt mediums and detergent, plus a load of water. Perhaps more chainrasps and Mantic figures will be sacrificed, this time in pursuit of an ink based wash. I'm guessing ink has finer pigment then paint. Got a big bottle of speedball black for comicula endeavours. Think that may work? |

Yep ink pigment typically finer than paint (especially acrylic). Can't speak for the ink you mention but Winsor and Newton drawing inks have always been a go-to, I still use peat brown in some of my hoarded bottle of Klear as my preferred wash (then W&N Galeria brush-on matt varnish) which I prefer to GW brown washes, though black wash I'd tend to go for GW nuln |
