tank battles on the Canadian prairie, local forces + SF in their own bitter little war out in the 'quiet' western sector,

Nah – you could just as well see the central and western provinces just decide America's a better deal and join the US. So then you're really just talking about parts of Ontario and Quebec…and really, how much of a fight would they put up? Gun ownership in Quebec Province is only 0.2% of the population!

Note, UshCha came on here and threw the gauntlet down. Over the years a lot of Europeans have come on this forum with smug undeserved superiority and voiced their opinions. Opinions that are often laced with contempt, disrespect and devoid of reality…

We do not need to be sorry or apologize!

Yes it is. But I was commenting about your post. I did not seek another comment from you regarding anyone's personal qualities. If you don't want a dispute, don't attack people personally.

I stopped believing the Europeans were our friends two decades ago.

I am glad your perception of us is incorrect!

Pre3suably Nato will now have to be dissolved. Europe cannot be associated with the Ethnic Clensing of Gaza as its a warcrime, this Ethnic clensing is is proposed by the current US president.

How will ETO reorganise, will they try to bring in other countries as the US is ejected? Will the absence of the US make ETO more attractive?

"May we live in interesting times!" A paraphrase of a Confucian curse.

smithsco06 Feb 2025 9:17 p.m. PST

That is very presumptuous considering Trump shoots his mouth off all the time. They're already slowly walking that one back in the media.

Also ejecting the US from NATO is beyond stupid for Europe. NATO can't defend itself or project power globally without the US Navy. Please note that Ukraine's forces have relied on American doctrine, tactics, and training to resist Russia. Russia wants the US out of NATO. Why the hell would Europeans want the same thing?

Dragon Gunner06 Feb 2025 9:36 p.m. PST

More UshCha fantasies…

Europe should be more worried the USA withdraws from NATO and then Europe will need to spend their GDP on their own defense…

Yes first Greenland! Next Panama! Than Canada! Than the extermination of the inferior races, whoever they are. 😂

But please, please …. Expel us from NATO. PLEASE!! 😂

My take on the Gaza issue. Trump comes out with a bombastic statement about the issue knowing it would create a storm of controversy, he can step back and say,"Well we tried but nobody wanted our help…"

Grattan54 Supporting Member of TMP06 Feb 2025 9:44 p.m. PST

No NATO will not break up over this. Trump often speaks without thinking. They are already running away from this idea. I highly doubt Greenland, Panama or Canada have much to worry about either. Someone gave Trump a book on McKinley and now he is all about tariffs and American Imperialism. It will pass.

Dragon I heard last night they were already planning the first new building. A strip joint called: "The Gaza Strip". 😉

I think the US is still in the same situation it was in in the early 50s. It could choose to be isolationist and hope the rest of the world will not fall to Russia and or China. I hope like Truman and others the US sees the value of having friendly nations in Europe.

Here's an idea: send the Palestinians to Ireland, Spain or Norway! If the Europeans don't like ethnic cleansing this decade, they could help by hosting them.

LOL! Really? Take a look at what's happening.

1. Greenland: Trump's "anchoring" and twitter talk to enhance US influence there has led a growing yet divided Independence movement in Greenland with Denmark scrambling to suck up to Greenlanders has committed $1.5 USD Billion in new spending and the result is the US is in a better position than before.

2. Panama: Trump's "anchoring" and twitter talk to enhance US influence there has resulted in Panama dropping its treaty-busting fees on US ships and promising not to renew Chinese maintenance for the Canal ports and Canal itself, and the result is the US is in a better position than before.

3. Mexico and Canada: Trump's "anchoring" and twitter talk and tariff threats to gain Mexican and Canadian commitments to enhance border security and crack down on drug and illegal migrant flows has resulted both countries complying with US support requests, and the result is the US is in a better position than before.

4. Gaza: Trump's "anchoring" and twitter talk has changed the whole dynamic of how we think of MidEast Peace. He's made the "big ask" about resettling Palestinians to all the Arab countries who say they support the Palestinians and then developing a US-controlled Gaza into the Monaco of the Levant. Everyone is freaking out, but if you read the statements and reactions the core premise of a redeveloped Gaza isn't necessarily being rejected, and the idea of a Gaza free of Hamas and under someone else's control is "in the wild" -- it's a matter of who's in charge of it. Dunno, but I'd guess his real desire is for the Arab states who've propped up the Palestinians and inflamed things to be central to cleaning up the mess they helped make.

SB, that information doesn't appear in their accepted media sources, they only report on a Trumpian dystopia and the end of civilization as we know it.
They call it his "plan 666". 😉

Tortorella Supporting Member of TMP07 Feb 2025 1:11 a.m. PST

Not an issue, not happening, IMO. Trump loves creating this kind of atmosphere. He talks and signs a bunch of EOs, looks good, but it's too early to see where all these accomplishments and proposals are taking us or what the impact is, IMO. If we keep heaping all this praise on him after a couple of weeks, even he may run out of ideas eventually, never mind the Project 25 playbook. But the new US won't be built in a day. I want to take stock after a few months to see how much of a difference he makes.

35thOVI Supporting Member of TMP07 Feb 2025 1:37 a.m. PST

Well Tort it's scared the H#ll out of Democrats. 😉

Got one calling for impeachment. In what? 3 weeks.

A few unhinged quotes:

""God d---it shut down the Senate!" Rep. LaMonica McIver, D-N.J., said during an anti-DOGE protest in Washington, D.C., Tuesday. "We are at war!""

"We are gonna be in your face, we are gonna be on your a--es and we are going to make sure you understand what democracy looks like, and this ain't it," Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, added.

Democrats have doubled down on their call to action this week after House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries told Americans to "fight" Trump's agenda "in the streets" last week.

"We have to stand up and protest," Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass, said at another rally in Washington, D.C., Wednesday. "When we come back here the next time, there should be hundreds of thousands and millions of people descending on Washington, D.C."

"We will fight their violation of civil service laws. We will fight their violation of civil rights laws. We will fight their violations of separation of powers. We will fight their violations of our Constitution of the United States of America. We will not shut up. We will stick up. We will rise up," Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., added.

"Elon Musk is a Nazi nepo baby, a godless lawless billionaire, who no one elected," Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., said at a rally outside the Treasury Department where protesters were speaking out against DOGE."

OPPs just saw this one. I would just like to express my thanks to her. 🙄

"Democratic Michigan Rep. Laurie Pohutsky, during a protest Wednesday against President Donald Trump, announced she decided to sterilize herself as a way to challenge the new administration.

At a protest at Michigan's state capitol, demonstrators gathered on the capitol lawn to support the national "50501 Movement," a grassroots anti-Trump initiative that seeks to organize people to "hit the streets" and "resist Project 2025," according to the Michigan Advance.

"Just under two weeks ago, I underwent surgery to ensure that I would never have to navigate a pregnancy in Donald Trump's America," Pohutsky said. "I refuse to let my body be treated as currency by an administration that only sees value in my ability to procreate.""

"I think the US is still in the same situation it was in in the early 50s"
Is that the 1650's? I'm just waiting for the witch trials to start again. Can't beat a good dose of mass hysteria due to the dangers of isolation, religious extremism, false accusations, and lapses in due process.

noggin2nog07 Feb 2025 3:31 a.m. PST

As to the question of Russia being a member of NATO – it was proposed by Boris Yeltsin back in the early 1990's.

Bunkermeister Supporting Member of TMP07 Feb 2025 3:54 a.m. PST

Trump is an excellent negotiator. That's how he made his billions, by negotiating land deals.
Tell everyone the US will take over Gaza and the Palestinians will live in Jordon, or Egypt.
Gaza will be rebuilt using money from Saudi Arabia or Dubai.
What exactly about that plan is worse than letting Gaza go back to being under Hamas rule and having the war with Israel go on another 20 years?
I suspect what will actually happen is the rich Arab states will pay the Palestinians to rebuild Gaza as a fantastic new place that will bring in tourists, and money from all over. Dubai and some other Gulf areas have done this to some degree so it's not unprecedented.
Anything is better than endless war that we have had in the Middle east since at least 1939.

And if NATO wants the US out then they might want to think about Germany and Italy getting nuclear weapons, because that has come up a few times in the past. Certainly they could do that pretty quickly.
Personally I think we should let South Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and the Philippines into NATO. We all face the same adversaries of Communist China and Russia. After all North Korea is already fighting in Europe.

The state is composed of "the Americas, the Atlantic Islands, including the British Isles, Australasia and the southern portion of Africa". The state's political system, uses a cult of personality to venerate the ruler, Big Brother, as the Inner Party exercises day-to-day power.

Is Trump a secret wargamer?

I ask because because some of his rhetoric has the makings of a fun little 'what if' campaign for modern gamers.

So, what if the US invades Greenland and/or Canada? Does this trigger Article V, and does that oblige Europe to deploy forces in their defence?

USN vs European navies in the North Atlantic, tank battles on the Canadian prairie, local forces + SF in their own bitter little war out in the 'quiet' western sector, and a Twighlight 2000-style rpg as isolated bands of US personnel in Europe fight their way to Switzerland or Ireland. Really it's got something for everyone!

Nine pound round07 Feb 2025 9:04 a.m. PST

It would take a lot of fantasizing to imagine Europe putting up that much of a fight. The deployable British Army is down to what, two divisions? The best that can be said about that is that it will be easier to get them off at Dunkirk next time.

35thOVI Supporting Member of TMP07 Feb 2025 10:13 a.m. PST

🤔

Woolly,

Well how would they get those troops here? Even if they had the ships to do it, past the US Navy?

If the US wanted to take Greenland.. by force.. the war would amount to a Granada.

I have to ask, is there anything positive in the media in the UK and elsewhere about Trump? I'd have to doubt it based on what I see in TMP from Europe. If you are relying on normal US MSM, you might as well be reading the walls of a bathroom stall.

Gray Bear07 Feb 2025 10:39 a.m. PST

Perhaps DOGE will uncover USAID has been financially funding bathroom stall influencers all along. This would fit in nicely with a Unified Theory of bovine feces dissemination.

noggin2nog07 Feb 2025 10:40 a.m. PST

The most positive thing about Trump is that, under the current constitution, he can't be president again. Of course, should he decide to rip up the constitution, and make himself king for life, he can no longer be prosecuted for doing it.
What the rest of the world can't figure out is how, as a nation, the USA was so stupid as to re-elect him.
Personally, I wouldn't trust him as far as I could spit him, let alone give him and his billionaire buddy complete power over the US military/industry/government.

Gray Bear07 Feb 2025 10:55 a.m. PST

Thank you noggin2nog for your enlightened distillation of the US domestic situation. Your insights and prognostications are profound. Please share more of them.

Nine pound round07 Feb 2025 10:59 a.m. PST

Why make an effort to understand Americans when you can just be rude about them?

It's remarkable how many Europeans get on this board and post insulting things about Americans and their politics, and yet how seldom the Americans reciprocate. I'm not saying your post shows credible evidence that you lack cognitive horsepower (although the lack of originality makes it hard to judge in any case), but do you really have so little humility that you think nobody could make similar comments about your own polity?

It's a little funny that you wouldn't trust Trump, because guess what: you don't get a vote, sport. We don't care much for your silly little knee-taking prime minister, but you don't see us clouding up the web with commentary about how he looked the other way while English girls got gang-raped, now, do you?

Woollygooseuk07 Feb 2025 11:21 a.m. PST

9pdr round – I'm not sure the UK could manage more than a brigade for high-end combat TBH.

35thOVI – the lack of a merchant navy is indeed the major flaw in what was already a fantasy scenario. It also relies on James Bond & mates stirring up trouble in the ME and Pacific so that the US can't deploy its full forces against Canada & Greenland. OTOH I think USN vs Europe in the N.Atlantic might be a closer match than some might expect. European navies aren't what the were during the Cold War, but then neither is the USN from what I've read in the past few years. Certainly ship-for-ship I'd say they're evenly matched.

Regarding media coverage, in the UK at least I'd say there are some strong Trump supporters, some vehemently anti, and quite a few just trying to work out what's actually going on.

Nine pound round07 Feb 2025 11:23 a.m. PST

Nice try, Tortorella. There is little commentary on this board about European domestic politics, and it's entirely typical that you're twisting something I've said. Whether it's your reading comprehension skills or your integrity is a point on which I have never made up my mind, but I explicitly said "insulting things about Americans and their politics." Everyone knows the issue of alliance burdensharing is a hot one, and it's heated on both sides- but it's simply not the case that Americans get on these boards, as a general rule, and make rude comments about Europeans' intelligence, based on the politicians they elect.

Tortorella Supporting Member of TMP07 Feb 2025 11:32 a.m. PST

You have to give Trump some time. I don't like him, I don't think he had a clue most of his last four years and coasted. This time, he has Musk, he has Project 25, and Stephen Miller. It's not right to deny him and them a chance.

It's hard to argue that we don't need some things to change. Let's see if this bunch can get some things done and make a difference. Its only been 3 weeks or so.

Nine pound round07 Feb 2025 11:33 a.m. PST

And you've spent most of that time clouding up the threads with a lot of boring whining about him.

Nine pound round07 Feb 2025 11:42 a.m. PST

That's sad, Wooly- it's tragic to see disarmament in NATO countries, whatever my views on the alliance.

I can't seriously imagine a US invasion of Canada or Greenland, whatever Trump may say on any given day.

Tortorella Supporting Member of TMP07 Feb 2025 11:44 a.m. PST

I don't want a semantic dispute Nine. I thought your earlier post was insulting and therefore ironic.

Nine pound round07 Feb 2025 11:48 a.m. PST

I think it should be pretty clear at this point that I don't care what you think- so if you don't want a dispute, don't comment on my posts.
