Written by Aelred Glidden, erstwhile contributor to MWAN. I've searched through the MWAN titles available in the Wargame Vault, but with no luck.

I'm sure I've got the original around here somewhere transcribed into Word, fgilbert. But once I find it, how do I send it to you?

What is Charge! for Dummies?

fgilbert204 Feb 2025 3:19 a.m. PST

It's a very short Napoleonic Ruleset from way back in the day, written by an actual Benedictine Prior who used to be a regular contributor to the wargaming newsletter MWAN.

Billy, if you find old MWANs, check for "The Monk's Corner" which generally included one of Br Aelred's rules--almost always short, clear and using individual basing, which gives a lot of flexibility. My recollection is that "Charge! for Dummies" was actually included as a "letter to the editor" rather than as an article or the "free set of rules in every issue" which makes it particularly hard to track down.

I used to have ambitions of a binder full of one-page rules. You can make your own, of course, but you'd never hack through the forest of copyright for publication.
