All three are available at the publisher website? Is there a compelling reason NOT to go with the third edition? Generally speaking, I'm a Cultist of the New. But coming from an WRG/DBx background, I realize many people don't equate the latest edition with the best edition.

I have, and have played, all three. 2nd edition was self-contained for the WLA, WSS and GNW and gave a good game. The "3rd" comprises 2 books (War of the 3 Kings" and "Talon and Claw") and they focus on WLA and GNW. A new book with emphasis
on the WSS is promised.I'm trying to get my group to go back to 2nd version but, having spent $ on the others, there is some resistance.

There is a good set of rules for a period I much love there but you must choose.

I have all three but the 3rd is the only version I have played.

I do like them, but the close combat rules (especially for horse) do need some clarifications..

I've bought all three of them for the eye candy quotient, but I do not game the period. I liked the Talon and Claw book very much. I did start a Swedish and Russian army for the GNW back in 2015. The Warfare figures are gorgeous and I might revisit painting more of the figures.

As a counterpart to Shagnasty, not everyone in his gaming group cares for this rule set. I've avoided some weekly games when I know this rule set is what they intend to play. The rules are poorly written, unclear in their meaning, and would greatly benefit from an index. Rules regarding movement and combat are scattered throughout the book rather being grouped together. It takes someone willing to rad the rules several times, make notes and keep the game on track. A key reason for me avoiding this rules set is that the games always break down into rules arguments with causes bad feelings and detracts from an important part of gaming – play to have fun. This rule set does not provide it. Keep searching for a better rules set. I've also yet to see the gaming group play a game to completion in an afternoon.

I'm in the dmclellan camp – needless over complexity, though some of this is down to poor writing and structure. Lack of an index is a basic error.

I've yet to play them, but I like them for the eye candy, in particular the GNW supplement.

FWIW: I did buy 3ed and read it. I didn't find it to be poorly written, which is to say that I didn't have many moments where I just flat out didn't understand what a sentence meant. On the other hand, I didn't much care for how the book was organized.
