Was there anything about the weapon that made it difficult or impossible to do this?

Also, was Michael Collins – the IRA one – left-handed?

(Apologies, a system glitch led to this being posted three times – and three times within each post – on the Early 20th Century Discussion Board.)

I have a friend that owns a WW2 Webley revolver. We've taken it to the range and shot it. Yes, it can be fired from either hand.

It could be fired with either hand.

Mine can.

Sorry, can't any pistol be fired with either hand?

I suspect it is the re-loading that is difficult left handed. Many revolvers have the cylinder release on the left side for use with a right hand thumb.

Depending on how the cylinder then opens may also make a difference.

True. Reloading smoothly is probably the only glitch. That said, the Webley was a top-break revolver.

OP, why do you ask?

Hush, 79th. The Fennians are clearly plotting something, and you wouldn't want the Black and Tans to get word. He'll tell us about it afterward, including what--or who?--Collins has in his right hand.

Anyone make British WWI castings with a burnt cork on the headgear?

OP, why do you ask?

#1 son was in Belfast, touring a museum and wanted to maintain his record (started in primary school) of asking the staff an awkward question that nobody could answer!

Thanks for all the answers on the Webley, chaps – greatly appreciated!

Good point, Robert. I'll pay a neighborhood kid to start my car for awhile.

Hmmm. Nobody has asked "which Webley revolver?"

Does it matter? All Webleys operate the same way.
