+1 Nine Pound. SB… I did not think they were attacking the White House. I get there was a 90 minute lockdown there, and rioters were at the gates. Per Trump, they never felt unsafe. I never thought it was a specific coup, but I hear you. I thought that month or so was a series of violent riots, and a lot of peaceful demonstrations, based on broader racial equality concerns that these people were expressing, along with the usual idiots committing various crimes of opportunity. And in some, Antifa anarchists taking advantage of chaos. |

Antifa and BLM demonstrators were NOT trying to disrupt the peaceful transition of the government. I saw what I saw, IN REAL TIME. So lame remarks about the "lame stream media" don't cut it. |

Maybe I'm just spitballing here, but "I know what I saw on TV" coming from a man who calls himself the fart meister isn't quite the most compelling argument I've ever heard. You're not the only person on this forum with eyes to see, and your attempt at self- righteous indignation is kind of typical- and also a little ridiculous. But it is funny that the fart meister is talking about "cutting it." |

I'm certainly no expert on the ins and outs of what went on Jan 6- I saw what the TV cameras captured as I was working. One thing I think I'm as much of an expert as anyone else on, though, is the way the two sides argue about it. And of the two, the left is by far the more self-righteous and doctrinaire, and they tend not only to repeat the same points over and over again, but to inject an air of self-righteous moral superiority that's clearly meant to discourage argument. Aside from the common problems with basic wit, written grammar, cognitive horsepower, etc, the monotonous sameness of the recited arguments tends not to convince me, but rather to make me skeptical. I used to do PR: I know what it sounds like when someone repeats a talking point I wrote. That's the sense I get, over and over, out of people who demand the rest of the world share their colossal indignation about the utter, shameful uniqueness of Jan 6. Sorry, but I don't buy it. It's not like it was Fort Sumpter. |

Nine without J6, they only have "you're a facist! You're a homophobe! you're a Nazi! You're a white supremist! iMHO Take Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett's word for it on CNN recently. After calling President Trump a white supremist, she went on: "During her district swearing-in ceremony for the 119th Congress on Tuesday, Rep. Jasmine Crockett claimed that "evil" is in the Oval Office and suggested that President Donald Trump's supporters are white supremacists. "Y'all, it's getting real. It's been eight days. Eight days, y'all, eight," Crockett said. "And we were only in for three of them. It's been eight days. And honestly, I don't know how else to describe this, other than evil. It's evil that is literally sitting in the highest seat in the world."" … "She continued, "Let me make sure y'all got the facts, most extreme crimes that take place in this country are committed by white supremacists. 80 percent of extreme crimes are committed by white supremacists in this country. Do you know who went up there on January 6? White supremacists. This ain't me just telling you, you can Google this if you don't believe me, but it was the Oath Keepers. It was the Neo Nazis. It was the Proud Boys. They are all white supremacists."" I get it. You all support attempts to overthrow the democratic transfer of power when YOUR candidate loses the election. Nothing more need be said. Also, you have nothing but contempt for the constitution. After all, we cannot tolerate Woke! 😱 I hope you will be so supportive of this 4 years from now, when elections are cancelled because they won't be needed anymore. Just remember that if you deviate by as much as 1% from the recognized Party Line, you are a heinous heretic and will be the first against the wall. "The only thing we learn from history is that we learn nothing from history." —-Hegel Please explain to me, in small words because I'm getting old and have a hard time understanding big ones, the relevance of my "old fart meister" nickname to this discussion. |

No, that's not it at all. It's that your posts make you seem self-righteous and silly, because they're collections of trite observations and talking points learned by rote. I would have a hard time taking you seriously, even if you weren't the Fart Meister. |

I have seen Crockett interviewed and on CNN. She is really a work of art. Very far left. Very much in the vein of everyone on the right is a racist and white nationalist. I would not take her seriously on much of anything. |

I would say in some cases, the race of the Candidate, overrides their qualifications. The same happens with incumbents. Many uniformed vote name recognition and know little of the candidate. I give you Mitch McConnell, Nancy Pelosi and others. Some of who can barely stand up. One could not even leave home any longer and had to be told how to vote. |
Nine pound round | 05 Feb 2025 3:19 p.m. PST |
In some cases. I think a big consideration is "how much money can you raise?" If you looks at the Ds, IIRC, the top fundraisers are still Pelosi, Schumer and Obama- which pretty much looks like the official and unofficial heads of the party. The ability to bring in that money is critical, and I suspect it's about to get more critical. It also has some potential to force them to admit people to the leadership they might not necessarily want. |
35thOVI | 05 Feb 2025 3:26 p.m. PST |
Nine 🤔 I assume that's so. Although I don't know how many are educated enough in the districts to know. It has never been a consideration with anyone I know personally. Fear on the other hand has been. I can see the gay fear vote in Pelosi's district. I know people who are gay and fear for their lives right now. Ridiculous I know. I am sure minorities vote for the same reason. Also some whites who would never vote for a black. So I never discount fear. |

Antifa and BLM demonstrators were NOT trying to disrupt the peaceful transition of the government. I saw what I saw, IN REAL TIME. Of COURSE Antifa and BLM were trying to "disrupt the peaceful transition of the government" through mass political violence, intimidation, threats and even murder to change how people voted. They were no different than Brown Shirts in that their use of violence was intended to give them and their side more power -- and it worked in 2020, didn't it? Combined with the Covid lockdowns and dodgy voting changes, how many people decided not to go to the polls because of this intimidation? And isn't it very convenient that after the Democrats won in 2020 that Antifa and BLM basically disappeared for four years -- only re-emerge when they lost power, like the Democrat leaders, party bosses and allies have 'em all on speed dial, eh? |
Nine pound round | 05 Feb 2025 4:28 p.m. PST |
Depends on the district. One of the things that House members typically get some leeway on leadership from is the district composition. Individual members get to be really good at knowing what their district will support, and what it won't, and the whips and the leadership usually work with them to figure out how they've got something they can defend (which is how you sometimes wind up with off-the-cuff DC Kabuki answers like "I voted before it before I voted against it"). Pelosi in particular had the reputation of being very smart about managing her caucus, sparing them tough votes, and arm-twisting them when she needed them (sometimes sweetening the deal with money that could be used to help bury attacks under an avalanche of ads). You don't get to the top of a caucus without knowing how to do that. |
