SB I think some of your info came from Trump himself. OPEC imports were lower under Biden than Trump, although Presidents have very little impact on this. I am not sure, but I think record production also occurred while Biden was Prez.

Reagan had the strongest dollar ever. Obama's economy, which Trump inherited, had a lower inflation rate at the time than Trump eventually had, and Biden had slightly lower unemployment. Trump comes in third behind Biden and Clinton for stock growth. Historically Dems score better on this so Trump did well. His GDP was about the same as Obama's and Biden's.

The China tariff policy resulted in costs passed down to US consumers and forced consecutive years of massive bailouts for US farmers. It would have been better for Trump to sit back and enjoy the ride of a relatively uneventful time period. But then the pandemic really hurt both him and Biden.

Trump comes out pretty well overall, but you cannot go by what he says. Trump's deficit spending was twice as big as Biden's. This is a big problem if it resumes.

How can we invade Greenland, Panama and Mexico if the 101st has been demoted to border guards?
When I was in the 101, '80-'83. old fart In an Infantry Bn as a Rifle Plt Ldr and then the Bn Air Ops Officer.

Plts and Cos. were trained for riot control. From what I can remember we were pretty good at it. Even got issued some shot guns and "flak vests" … A lot of my troops were off the block or from the county side. There were some pretty "tough hombres" …

However, none of those nation will need to be invaded by anybody. You make a deal … Money talks … BTW, the US has had troops in Greenland during WWII and afterwords. There still are some USAF inn Tule.

Panama too, I was there 3 times with the 101.

Mexico … 25% tariffs on their products will work …

35th OVI,

this goes back a bit, but I am sorry that your extend family has treated you that way. I can't say I always agree with you opinions but you always give fair responses and you are willing to discuss differences in a polite manner. I don't understand why people will totally disavow friends and family over politics. I feel the far left and far right have caused much of this break down in the ability to just discuss our differences and agree to disagree. We need to stop painting the other side as evil and demented and just accept we won't agree on many issues.

Grattan54 thank you very much. It affects my wife more so than me. It is her family. Her brother did this prior to 2020. Her sister and niece are the new ones. You cannot discuss it with them. It is their views, or none. I've never tried to get them to change their political views before. I try not to discuss it with them. Right now honestly, they are unhinged. I hope them calm down after 6 months or so.

I enjoy your views as well. If everyone agreed with me, I might be scared. 😉

Yes oil imports were lower for the whole of Biden's, but had been decreasing each year of Trumps.

So as the Democrats always tell us: "Trump inherited the Obama economy". Well Biden inherited the Trump oil glut and policies" even though Biden was doing what he could to disable them. 😂

Prices may rise again temporarily with the tariffs imposed on Mexico and Canada yesterday. So if they do, it is for long term economic benefits. 😉

But back to the border

"Cartels have authorized the use of weaponized drone explosives against border agents and other U.S. law enforcement at the southern border as violent threats are escalating on social media, with some promising the use of deadly force against Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is taking the threats seriously enough to circulate two memos among agents and officers within the agency. Copies of the memos were obtained by NewsNation.

One of the communications references three different social media posts that included threats.

One post encourages people to assassinate ICE police, while a TikTok video tells immigrants illegally in the U.S. to spit and urinate on ICE agents' food and defecate in their vehicles. Another post calls for the murder of local ICE agents.

A second memo warns that cartels have authorized the use of drone explosives against CBP personnel and U.S. law enforcement officers.

Border czar Tom Homan told NewsNation this week that leaked information about targeted operations has forced authorities to pivot to keep officers and agents safe.

"We've got many target cities, but I'm not going to share them with you because we got to keep our officers safe," Homan said.

"Matter of fact, Chicago, that operation was leaked, so we had to reschedule that one. But we need an element of surprise because of officer safety issues. We don't want the bad guy to know we're coming," he added.

Agents are reminded to be cognizant of their surroundings and should be wearing their ballistic armor and utilizing their long firearms.

Maryland Rep. Glenn Ivey, a member of the House Homeland Security Committee, told NewsNation that weaponized drones have become more common in warfare, so it's not surprising cartels may be poised to use them at the U.S. border."

Biden inherited Covid! There was no economy. The one thing is he did do was get us out of it better than any other country economically and still raised the deficit only by half of what Trump did.

The use of tariffs is to persuade our neighbors to stop illegal aliens from bring drugs, sex trafficking, gang bangers, criminals of all types, etc. across the US borders. Which in turn results in American citizens deaths or harm.

I don't understand what some in the US don't understand. The bad guys are using the masses of illegal aliens as cover. To assist the bad guys in coming to the US to do harm or worse.

Yes, the vast majority of illegal aliens are not hard corps criminals, terrorists, etc. But like in any insurgency the insurgents use the locals to cover their moves/commit crimes.

Also the cartels are making a lot of $ bringing illegal aliens, drugs, sex traffickers, etc. into the USA.

The last admin's open border policies were making the bad guys very wealthy. The last admin aided and abetted the bad guys to commit crimes, etc. in the USA. A lot of blood on that admins and other in DCs very dirty hands.

And again, only a small minority of illegal aliens are raping, killing, etc. US citizens. So are there "acceptable losses" of Americans to allow millions of illegal aliens into the USA. Resulting in very high US casualties. And again, you may not be a hardened criminal, but if you just cross the US Border illegally you are breaking US law.

86.2% of those arrested for smuggling Fentanyl into the US were US citizens. As long as we have demand for illegal drugs, someone will continue to supply that demand. Maybe we should do something about all the Fentanyl users. We can start with the top 5 by deaths per capita: West Virgina, Tennessee, Delaware, Louisiana and Maine then work out from there.

Ideas how, that have not already been tried?

Declare Marshall Law on anyone smuggling or dealing drugs? Caught and you are hung from the nearest light post within minutes.
Or
If caught in the US, make an agreement with Mexico to put them in jail there? We can pay for their incarceration… as long as they remain alive… which shouldn't be long.

Either way, no recidivism.

At least both these are outside the box and have not been tried. Nothing tried so far has ever worked.

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP03 Feb 2025 10:06 a.m. PST

86.2% of those arrested for smuggling Fentanyl into the US were US citizens.
That is not really the point in the bigger picture, IMO.

Where do these US citizens and anyone else get the drugs ?

Very high probability from the cartels and gangs South of the Border …

Where do the drugs come from that goes to the cartels ?

China sends/sell, etc. the ingredients to the cartels …

The war on drugs has been going on for a long time. Admittedly with minimal results. However, IMO and others smarter than me, etc., drug rehab only is also limited in effectiveness.

So making very, very hard for the drugs to cross into the US is going to be more effective than rehab. For better or worse …

Interdiction at the source(s) would more effective. I.e. China & the Cartels. You will not get all of it coming across the borders. But we see now with the Southern border being such down. Using the Military both Active, NG and Res. Allowing ICE, CBP, DEA, US Marshals, FBI, local LEOs, etc. to do their jobs. Some of the NG, etc. have been deputized. They now can arrest illegal aliens.

When you want to set up a defense you need to place obstacles in the way of the enemies' routes of ingress/likely avenues of approach. At least that is the way we were taught at the Ft. Benning [now Ft. Moore], GA Infantry School. Based on history and experience.

And these defenses can be layered. E.g. Kursk WWII Russia.

All assets available should be used. Including mechanical and human. These have to work together. E.g. Drones & humans … Drones alone can't stop infiltration on their own. Unless they are armed. But attacking unarmed illegal aliens would be a crime. Laying mines and booby traps albeit it would stem the flow. But again, it would be a crime to kill illegal aliens. Even if those aliens are being used as cover and a distraction to make it easier to get the drugs, human trafficking, etc., etc.

As in an insurgency the insurgents blend in with the locals. You can't always tell who the bad guys are. Again, as history and classes at Ft. Benning, GA taught us …

The open border policies of the last admin has been one of the worse things they let happen. And is and will cause the USA many problems to come for year in the future. The new admin in a matter of days is doing what they have to. To clean up the dreadful mess the last admin not only allowed to happen. But also sanctioned. And all involve will get away with it …

The Republic's #1 job is to protect its citizens. The last admin failed miserably. And aided and abetted enemies of our citizens. Causing deaths of those they should have been protecting … There is a lot of blood on the last admin's and many in DC's dirty hands …

I just spoke with President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico. It was a very friendly conversation wherein she agreed to immediately supply 10,000 Mexican Soldiers on the Border separating Mexico and the United States. These soldiers will be specifically designated to stop the flow of fentanyl, and illegal migrants into our Country. We further agreed to immediately pause the anticipated tariffs for a one month period during which we will have negotiations headed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Treasury Scott Bessent, and Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, and high-level Representatives of Mexico. I look forward to participating in those negotiations, with President Sheinbaum, as we attempt to achieve a "deal" between our two Countries.

Not enough from Mexico…. 10,000 soldiers, loyal to who?

Americans want drugs. They pay for the overseas imports. They want drugs because they like using them, not because the cartels supply them. You have to address both ends of the problem or people just switch to other highs. From crack to meth to fentanyl variations, and all the other @#$& Americans have ingested over the decades, products and suppliers appear where the demand is great. Cut off cartels and the meth labs here will step up production again.

SBminisguy03 Feb 2025 1:41 p.m. PST

You have to address both ends of the problem or people just switch to other highs.

Yep. So why has the US seen such a rise in drug use and drug deaths? Drugs and alcohol are typically 'escape' addictions -- people resort to drugs to escape material and emotionally intolerable situations. So why do so many Americans want to escape, and what are they escaping from? Here's a thought -- I combined a chart from the National Institute on Drug Abuse showing the rise of drug deaths and a chart from the Bureau of Labor and Statistics showing the loss of manufacturing jobs over the same time range.

Thats what I'm thinking…

"Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Monday afternoon a deal had been reached averting US tariffs and Canadian retaliation for at least 30 days.

Trudeau said Canada had agreed to go ahead with a $1.3 USD-billion border plan it had already drawn up, alongside fresh measures aimed at securing the Canada-US border.

"Canada is making new commitments to appoint a fentanyl czar, we will list cartels as terrorists, ensure 24/7 eyes on the border, launch a Canada-US joint strike force to combat organized crime, fentanyl and money laundering," Trudeau wrote online.

"I have also signed a new intelligence directive on organized crime and fentanyl and we will be backing it with $200 USD million."

He said the proposed tariffs would be "paused for at least 30 days while we work together.""

The general consensus from health care is that the sudden rise in overdose deaths ties directly to the pandemic, along with alcohol related deaths. Makes sense, but there must be other factors. The various job losses also were driven by pandemic issues. Of course there may be some other factors.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio says El Salvador's president has offered to accept deportees from the U.S. of all nationalities as well as violent criminals now imprisoned in the United States.

President Nayib Bukele 'has agreed to the most unprecedented, extraordinary, extraordinary migratory agreement anywhere in the world,' Rubio said.

'He's also offered to do the same for dangerous criminals currently in custody and serving their sentence in the United States even though they're U.S. citizens or legal residents.'

Rubio was visiting El Salvador on Monday to press a friendly government to do more to meet Trump administration demands for a major crackdown on immigration amid turmoil in Washington over the status of the government's main foreign development agency.

'President Bukele agreed to take back all Salvadoran MS-13 gang members who are in the United States unlawfully. He also promised to accept and incarcerate violent illegal immigrants, including members of the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang, but also criminal illegal migrants from any country,' State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said in a statement.

'And in an extraordinary gesture never before extended by any country, President Bukele offered to house in his jails dangerous American criminals, including U.S. citizens and legal residents,' Bruce added.

Bruce called it a 'tremendously successful meeting that will make both countries stronger, safer, and more prosperous.'

Rubio arrived in San Salvador shortly after watching a U.S.-funded deportation flight with 43 migrants leave from Panama for Colombia.

hat came a day after Rubio delivered a warning to Panama that unless the government moved immediately to reduce or eliminate China's presence at the Panama Canal, the U.S. would act to do so."

Except the January 6th prisoners were NOT treated the same as the liberal rioters(who were very much more violent), as nine and I both know. Also what was portrayed and shown by the MSM was edited to fit their agenda, as well as the rigged January 6th prisoners congressional "inquiry". All one has to do is take the time to watch the unedited videos released last year.

But to just give a feel for a couple of differences on how the J6's were treated differently, here are a few links. Oh and the only one killed by firearms, was an unarmed, ex military, white woman, shot by a black police officer. Good thing it wasn't reversed and happened in Minneapolis, right? 🤔

The first is long, but well worth the read.

IMO Jan 6 should not be lumped in with the riots in 2020.

There was a nearby speech by the President, who broadly urged people to fight like hell. Then 5000 people went to the US Capitol, broke in, forcing the Vice-President and the entire Congress, including Republicans, to literally run and hide. This stopped the certification of the presidential election until the building could be secured hours later.

Not just another day in divided America. Thousands of people have died in race riots, draft riots, lynchings, crime waves, looting waves, etc. But not even Jubal Early got into the Capitol, though the British burned the White House. The symbolic nature of the Jan 6 riot was not lost on millions, nor was this helped by recanting politicians claiming it was like a tourist visit. As if we weren't disillusioned enough.

Much we disagree on about Jan 6, but it was not exactly like Minneapolis or Portland in 20, or LA in 92, or Tulsa, or all over in 1919, or Newark in 67 when the military was deployed. I saw the armor come down the street in NJ. Gunfire and smoke.

Jan 6 will always be remembered, for some different reasons, a unique part of history.

Perhaps broaden your news sources a bit, eh?

1. EVERY politician says "Fight like Hell" about stuff

2. Trump is on record as saying "Peacefully and forcefully make your voices heard" and did NOT call for violence

3. Trump was still speaking while people gathered at the Capitol Building, so he didn't rile 'em up and set them loose

4. The riot broke out on ONE SIDE of the building after the Capitol PD opened fire on the crowd with rubber bullets and pepper balls and tear gas grenades BEFORE they became violent. Camera footage released shows this -- the Cops escalated when they didn't need to. One released body cam shows the specific Cop who started the escalation-- angry and emotional he urges his fellow cops to take action, and starts hurling tear gas grenades into the crowd and urging cops to open fire. In fact, his poorly thrown tear gas grenade hit his own fellow cops and forces them to retreat, allowing the crowd to surge forward!

5. On the OTHER SIDE of the building, Capitol police OPENED THE DOORS! this is also on camera. The crowd on that side basically meandered around taking selfies while the riot raged on the other side of the huge building, and the so-called "QANON Shaman" dude was ESCORTED by Capitol Cops into the Senate Chamber, where he called for peace and respect to the cops and the Chamber, said a prayer and WAS ESCORTED BACK OUT BY COPS!

6. Back on the Riot side of the building, the cops KILLED TWO UNARMED WOMEN! Ashley Babbit was shot in the throat and bled out, and Rosanne Boyland was sprayed at point blank with Choke 'n Puke gas and went into respiratory arrest as COPS BEAT HER. Camera footage shows she collapsed and a cop continued to beat her prone body with a billy club! Members of the crowd tried to appeal to the cops and shield her but were unable -- she died in her own vomit.

7. In addition to police injuries, many people om the crowd -- both bystanders and rioters -- were seriously injured by point blank rubber bullet and pepper ball fire, losing eyes and taking crippling injuries.

IMO Jan 6 should not be lumped in with the riots in 2020.

And in contrast to the spontaneous Jan 6 riot with many causal factors to consider (e.g., the FBI still refuses to divulge how many agents were in the crowd, why did Pelosi and the Schumer and the Mayor of DC refuse National Guard support, why was the Capitol Architect ordered to remove security barriers before Jan 6, etc.) is the May 30 2020 attempt to storm the White House by Antifa/BLM mobs.

This was an organized, planned riot in front of the White House at night with the express purpose of disrupting the White House and causing harm. The large mob smashed and destroyed property, set multiple fires, burned police cars and other cars, and burned an historic church. They threw Molotovs and fireworks at police, and some tried to enter the White House grounds which forced the President and First Family to seek shelter in the White House bunker. The Secret Service and Park Police appealed to the Mayor of DC for police support -- she refused. In the fray over 160 police officers were injured.

How many of the rioters were arrested? ONE. One person…

A plurality voted for Trump, and/or against Harris, not for one version of Jan6 over another, but I take your point and I get I am in the minority on many things here.

There are now a lot of versions of what happened. I have seen video of windows being smashed and of people casually walking in looking peaceful. But I have my opinion on this based on what I heard and saw of Jan 6. There was credible danger to elected officials based on what was known at the time, and explicit threats were heard in the Capitol against the VP. Josh Hawley never walked so fast in his life. We are stuck once again with divided beliefs.

There is no excuse for the property damage done by rioters during the Floyd protests in DC. Criminal acts were committed. Many thousands arrested across the country, fatalities, injuries to rioters and police. But it did not take place inside the Capitol, and no one was rioting to change election results.

The Capitol building is massive – it's about 1,000 feet long 300-500 feet wide, and the main dome is almost 300 feet tall. That's why on the side facing the National Mall you can have a riot, and on the opposite side with the visitors center you can have a crowd doing a peaceful selfie stroll.

I worked in DC for 5 years, and have been to that building a bunch of times – and to the other buildings on Capitol Hill. The set-up that day just looked all off to me. Where were all the normal bike-rack security barriers that were usually there? Why so few police? Why not extra barriers if they were worried about security? And it was bizarre -- why wasn't the whole building locked down -- why did one side allow selfie vistors while the other side was engulfed in a riot?

There is no excuse for the property damage done by rioters during the Floyd protests in DC. Criminal acts were committed. Many thousands arrested across the country, fatalities, injuries to rioters and police. But it did not take place inside the Capitol, and no one was rioting to change election results.

Double standard much? Screw that! The May 30 ATTACK on the White House was a direct attempt to change the election results through violence, violence that resulted in 160 injured cops and our national leadership forced into a damn bunker. Funny priorities you have…
