Finally I have finished my "big building" project. Many years ago when we played 1/72, 1/144 then was but a dream, I produced for 1/72 the largest building I felt was of practical wargaming use, feel free to disagree. While many 1/72 scale buildings could be scaled down with just minor tweaks the big 3 story ones were not, and a new system to represent floors needed, more awkward of course as my building have to fold flat due to the sheer volumes involved. In the end I arrived at a card/3D printed hybrid solution for the floors. I still see these buildings as the largest practice for gaming purposes at 1/144. This gave the opportunity to have the same internals but with different skins. So I present you with the following pictures. This first three show the Tower Block Skin with 1/144 infantry and a vehicle to give a sense of scale. link link link The second set shows the other skins basically a big house with one Tower block for comparison. I'm sorry, but during my convalescence I have no access to the mancave so no nice pictures on the wargames table.
The next photo shows as before the skin removed but in this case the roof lifted to show access to what is now the 3rd floor.
Finally a sort of shot of it all folded down, without a box to keep it compressed, it does take up more room but you get the idea.

I think the buildings look nice, and it looks like a workable solution for you. |

I'd agree with 79th. If they'll hold up under use, these should serve your purposes well. |

I have smaller ones, a few still surviving that were done on a Dot Matrix printer (some new folk may not be old enough to know what one of those is). I guess thats about 30 + years. As a comaprison some of my metal army'se have not survived constant use for that long. I do have hopes for the 3D printed stuff which is much more durable than, bendable, paint, chipping and breakable metal. Be nice to have army's that last as long as card buildings. |
