So I went and bought the book.
So far it is exactly what I was looking for – a detailed account of the 17th in the Battle of the Bulge. The editor needs to be flogged though – twice now in teh first 60 pages or so they have duplicated aa complete paragraph. I hate sloppy editing.
So far my two favorite stories:
One guy told about how his unit (a support unit, arty or similar) were issued Thompsons. It wasn't long before they ditched them for M1s – they didn't like lugging around all the extra ammo a Thomnpson required.
Secon one was a Gliderman as I recall. He was ordered tto guard a bridge. When the regiment moved out they forgot about him. After 3 or so days another unit came by – he had dstayed at the bridge. It took a couple more days for him to get back to his outfit, only to find out they had listed him as a deseter.
