I have neglected the terrain outside the castle, as I want the battles to start as the invader gets in. its a more developed castle not a country mud hut city, so need battles of big castles. I have a secret entry into castle. I was thinking some saga raid, or musketeers. or lord of rings or , game of throwns, but i really want an authentic historical scenario.

Nice work! For authentic historical, I'd look at jailbreaks, mostly. But there are also assassinations, kidnappings arrests (if the arrestee is locally popular) and every now and then someone tries to sneak in, run up a flag and seize a gate.

By way of urban development, as old walled cities grew bigger, they generally built new walls and tore down the old--but commonly not the gatehouses, which were living space, after all, and might contain a clock or bell tower. So it would be prefectly legitimate to have a few gatehouses within your city not connected to your walls.

Secret entrance? Thru the sewer, like everybody else?

How about Harald Hardrada's ruse in capturing a city in Sicily? He pretended to convert and then "died"
so his pallbearers could carry his coffin into the city. Perhaps it was apocryphal.

Have you ever experimented with a black, or brown wash? It adds a nice aging effect, but it can easily be overdone. LOL!

How about King Henry V's siege of Harfleur? You could watch Kenneth Branagh's production of Shakespeare's Henry V, movie, for inspiration. Branagh left the Narrator in his movie, in spite of hiring 1,000+ extra's for the battle of Agincourt. I find it quite hilarious to see/hear the Narrator, followed immediately by the large battle scenes.
Really well done movie, IMO. To be honest, it is one of my all-time favorite movies. I love his Uncle, Duke Thomas Beaufort of Exeter, in the treason arrest scene, when he loses his temper (B***-slap on the face)! ROFL, I love that scene! Cheers!

You could have riots between the supporters of a horse race around the city between neighborhood guilds, like the Palio in Siena:

link

Rioters might be wearing scarves or even tunics in their guild colors. The Prince of the city might be trying to restore order; the Thieves Guild could be using the riot to try to pull off a big theft from a banking house; an imprisoned nobleman's family could be taking the opportunity to try to rescue him from the Prince's dungeon; etc etc

the castle is the old citidel fortress, you can still buy it on ebay £100.00 GBP-£400. then the keep is the mighty fortress comes in lots of bits as a kit about £150.00 GBP i think. the bell towers are from endertoys on amazon £35.00 GBP , the row of houses are 3d printed the file is widely available i think. i bought a few houses on ebay about £25.00 GBP each. the church is a warlord kit £30.00 GBP the mats are about £60.00 GBP the figures are from ebay 30 years ago about £30.00 GBP, and some games workshop britons.

westernmini10 Jan 2025 2:19 p.m. PST

found a boardgame kingmaker and it had some nice counters, so my historical theme is now set, war of the roses, and deligets from all over visit the castle for talks, but arguments happen 🙂

westernmini11 Jan 2025 4:53 a.m. PST

Im going to have castle guards, and defenders, and patrols. if any fighting by the patrols is discovered they are threw in jail, if you win a fight then there shield is added to your support, when you have enough support your men will breach castle walls, the defenders will try to repel. then they will attack guards at keep if they win they will be crowned king of britain.

Im going to use special single hero figures for the delegets, general knights for the castle men, and britans from games workshop for the castle assaulters.

Im thinking like colditz a patrol that moves each turn, then if a fight is come upon there in jail. the fights can be one man or more.

I think this may fit game of throwns

Im going to move knights around, and when groups or single units meet, you can throw your shield down for a fight maybe.

Fantasy games wirh zombies?

Pirate themed game where they attempt to rescue their mates holed up in the d8ngeon waiting to be executed?

So many choices and options…
