Reading the topic "Rule Longevity" posted 22 December 2024 by The
Wargames Room, I looked through my copy of Wargames Rules 1685-1845.

Memory recalled the large battles played 40 years past, a few needing
a weekend with 20-30 players.

My own collection of Seven Years War has remained in their boxes for
the past 10 years and found the time ripe for reviving a dormant period.

The project has two objectives, one, refurbishing the four armies in the
Collection and two, more importantly, simplifying the rule set to flow like
DBA3, yet retaining the good stuff.

We still use the upgrades Humberside Extension for large scale battles,
but lack a rule set catering to smaller engagements. A draft set has reduced
a 44-page rule book to 6 pages and refurbishing the collection has started.

I look forward to following your project.

Congratulations, and please keep us informed. There are days I think I'm simply not going to live to repeat the roughly analogous "Column, Line and Square" project.

I went on a hunt for the Humberside Extension 3.0. I have the others and played this many years ago. I actually got motivated and created the HOTT Scifi variant based on a Bruce MacFarlane's WWII variant. It had lists for 40K, Starship Troopers and some other stuff. Sorry to stray. You just reawakened this when I went on the hunt. Good luck on your project!

Thanks!

John

Thank you for the encouraging words.

Preliminary tests look promising and report will appear
at the blog along with the highlights.

The first batch of Austrians and photos will be uploaded.
Cheers,
Robert
