I've noticed an increase in books dealing with logistics. These tend to help answer those questions we have that involve slowly shaking our heads, and asking, "Why on earth would anybody with any sense at all do something like that." Grelber |

Sounds good if expensive. One of the best history books I've ever read was Engels' "Alexander the Great and the Logistics of the Macedonian Army. Absolutely eye-opening as to Alexander's competence and how an ancient army got its grub, duds and weapons. |

I agree with your basic point Grelber about logistics fundamentally shaping command decisions. I suspect the Romans had to either fight or go home when facing Hannibal at Cannae as the army was too big to keep in the field indefinitely. It was probably logistics that forced Eisenhower's hand to go forward with D-Day. |
