Today, as the title suggests, Phil my friend helped me playtest a set of Dr Who rules I have been working on. I have done a little BatRep of how the game went, and its on my blog at this link
Enjoy! |

Looks like these are going to be a fun set of rules. Can't wait to see the finished set. Dave |

Interesting. Doctor Who gaming can present a problem in finding a proper in-game role for the usually unarmed main characters. It looks like you're working on mechanisms to create a plot instead of trying to fit them into a military skirmish. Let's know how it goes. |

Thank you for the kind comments! #Forrester, indeed, I modified a solo skirmish system I used on others of my rules. I have what I call 'Thought cards' which are mixed in with other cards to produce a deck, and are more likely to appear than aliens, and you need to collect the correct 5 cards( in the same colour) before you can do the actions to defeat them. I am trying to represent what happens in the episodes (3rd and 4th Doctors, especially) where by exploring, the characters work out what is happening, and how they can defeat their enemies. You are correct too in that its more important to hide from aliens, or distract them while you wait for the solution to appear! Its also a game dynamic that you cannot succeed in the game without taking risks, which provides a degree of excitement! One event I didn't mention in the game report was that when the Doctor was captured, I had to sacrifice the 2 correct thought cards I had to release him. Fortunately, a subsequent 'Shuffle Deck' card we got meant the sacrificed cards were found again quite quickly. It was a good job as we were getting overrun by Autons! |
