Translated from North Korean soldier's notebook:

How to avoid artillery fire zones.

If caught in an artillery fire zone, designate a new assembly point [for the group], split into smaller groups and leave the fire zone.

Another way: since artillery does not strike the same point twice, one can take cover at the site of the [previous] hit and then leave the fire zone.

I like the no 2 rounds hit the same spot, except they do

I hope they kill as many Norks as they do Russians!

'Doesn't strike the same point twice'? Interesting, and not how I remember it.

What can we expect from poor people who have been isolated from the rest of the world for decades and who are sent to die under the command and direction of the most bloodthirsty drunkards we have ever known in the military?

By the time they breakdown into groups … it will be too late. I think they were trying to disperse to avoid being one big target. Unless they have SOPs in place that they already have practiced. But even then, they have to get out of the kill zone ASAP.

We were trained to all run out of the kill zone as fast as possible. In a direction [and distance if possible] using the clock system yelled out by the TL, SL, etc. The faster you get out of the kill zone the better.

The TL, SL, etc. could also designate a previously chosen nearby Rally Point. Far enough away from the FA blasts kill zone.

Regardless, get out of the kill zone keeping some sort of control of unit. As if everyone goes in all different directions the unit will be dispersed. And would take time to get reorganized. Time that could be used to continue on with the mission.

Bottom line – Get the Hell out of Dodge !

We had the same training.

Once that first spotting round comes in you better be running or in cover. The quality of the artillery battery and the forward observer will determine how many corrections need to be made before the battery is on target and fires for effect. A good forward observer will know how to bracket running troops so they won't get away. God help you if you are in an established TRP, no corrections need to be made the battery just fires for effect.
