Just spotted among the usual Christmas repeated repeats, two Napoleonic gem repeats –
Sharpe's Peril – 8pm- U+Drama Channel-Boxing Day
Hornblower – 7.15am – ITV 4 – Saturday 28th Dec

The volume of ads on those channels does me in

Record them & fast forward through the ads….

Prince of Essling – Spot on. I virtually record every programme I'm interested in, football games included. Life's too short, especially at my age, to waste it on useless adverts.

If you are using Sky you can download most of the Hornblower without ads.

Sharpe and the final series of Hornblower are on the ITV app (free with ads, geolocated)

Got the Sharpe programme okay but have not yet had the time free to watch it, so it is a little treat to come. On the negative side, guess which Bleeped text turned everything off so that the Hornblower episode did not record! LOL

@Gazzola,

That is where "Catch Up" comes in – I see there are 2 episodes from Series 2 (re the mutiny against Sawyer) & also 2 from Series 3 (Hornblower demoted due to peace etc).

CAREME

" Benjamin Voisin will lead Apple TV's new French historical original series CAREME on the famous 19th century chef turned spy and now we have the first images for the show that will launch April 30th. Set in the 19th century, the eight episode series, directed by Martin Bourboulon who helmed The Three Musketeers, will follow the sprawling story of Antonin Carême, who rose from humble beginnings in Paris to the height of culinary stardom in Napoleon's Europe. He not only became an iconic chef, he also became a spy for France as his talent and ambitions attracted the attention of powerful politicians, including Napoleon. The series will shed light on the miserable reality of 19th century kitchens, contrasting with the opulence of the mansions and sophisticated of aristocrats. Jérémie Renier will play Charles-Maurice de Talleyrand-Périgord, a Machiavellian diplomat who was minister of foreign affairs in the government of Napoleon Bonaparte; and Lyna Khoudri will appear as Henriette, Carême's lover and most dangerous threat. The series is inspired by Ian Kelly book "Cooking for Kings: The Life of Antonin Carême – The First Celebrity Chef"!"

David Hollins has commented on Napoleonic Wars Forum link

"Apple has announced 'Careme' for the end of April link

Given recent issues around UK celebrity chefs, it was probably best made in French about the original celebrity chef, who cooked for Napoleon and Tsar Alexander. However, looking at internet items about Careme, link and link it seems he was just a chef and the spy bit has been added to embellish the story. Maybe we will see UK follow-ups like 'The Hairy Spies' and 'Two Fat Spies'?

I was just thinking I might sign up and rewatch 'Long Way Up' – Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman biking up South and Central America – until I suddenly realised that …… Ridley Scott's Napoleon + Director's Cut were made by Apple."

In the light of the last para & the rubbish Napoleon film, I think I will be giving this one a miss!!!!

I don't know, all this doom and gloom. It's a Napoleonic period drama, for heaven's sake! We don't get that many Nap period films or dramas and with all the moaning going on, that situation might get worse. Perhaps people should wait and watch it before jumping to conclusions.
