Anyone know what the engineer companies carried, e.g. flamethrowers, bridges, mine detectors…. |

If this is for Bolt Action list building purposes, then sure. "Probably" 3 flame throwers…. ….and a heavy howitzer. |

@ Deucey I was looking for historical information and I don't regard wargames rules sets as a reliable source because I have past evidence the they often aren't. |

Sorry about that. I couldn't pass up a chance to be a sarcadtic smart-a**. I really need to tone down my first impulse. (You'd be surprised how often I delete a post after thinking about it for a minute or two.) |

Engineer units are often only fleetingly described as regards their organisation and equipment. I think 1939 was too early for the classic mine detector and I can't pretend to know anything about Polish bridging equipment, that was though normally kept at Battalion level. Flamethrowers, in Polish service, dunno either. Leo Niehorster just has a precis of the Infantry Division, which shows the Engineer Company with two LMGs at least. link Gary |

Neihorster also shows that each Infantry Regiment only had a single engineer platoon. Most engineers build stuff and blow things up, and create or breach obstacles. They don't generally make brilliant front line combat units, although obviously it depends how they are trained and equipped. |

@ Deucey, you and me both, I edited [toned down] my first reply twice before posting it. I'm coming to the conclusion it was probably just men with bigger shovels and just possible a few explosive charges. The Niehorster link appears to remove bridging and assault engineers as they are given specific symbols that are not used. Unless anyone has better data I think I m relegating them to the 'off table forces' section. |
