You recently voted – TMP link – to create a Travel Tips board.

However, it's been pointed out we already have one. grin

Which has 15 posts in 4 years!

Not topics.
Posts.

Maybe we could move it out of TMP Plus purgatory and onto the main page?

The best travel tip? Stay home! laugh You won't regret it!

"Stay home!"

Yes, travel is truly awful.

Poor me, having to go to the greatest city in the world (London) every year for the past 12 years to see my daughter. A place with something new to see every year.

Or dancing with the locals (shudder!) in the central plaza at Zagreb, five years ago.

I can't express my disgust at, a few years ago, standing in Maeshowe, a 5000 year old Neolithic tomb in Orkney, looking at viking graffiti scratched in a mere 1700 years ago.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maeshowe

Or kayaking in Norway last year, with Orcas within spitting distance. How utterly boring!!

Or a few months ago, in Puglia, staying in a C17th Trullo for a week. Where's the novelty in that??:

Next year, I'm being forced to go to Paris with my French speaking daughter-in-law & my son where we'll drink coffee on some loathsome Parisian side walk cafe & watch the world go by.

Seriously? Leave home! You won't regret it!

Maybe we could move it out of TMP Plus purgatory and onto the main page?

Theoretically, yes.

Or there's the option to recombine the main forum with TMP Plus, if that's where the problem lies.

Or… we already have national boards, so perhaps a topic about traveling to Paris, say, belongs on the Wargaming in France board?

Hmmm…

@ochion – I feel your pain, I had to go to Rome and endure the eternal city. And Paris and all those darned boulevards. And don't get me started on the ancient towers and canals of Bruges. The horror.

Precisely. We should form a self-help group:"Insular Anonymous". It could reach out to those who are forced to travel abroad, meet new people, see wondrous sites & experience great food & drink.

They do say 'Travel broadens the mind' – which is true- but who wants a broad mind?!?

IF I wouldn't have travelled 3000 miles to the other side of the world, I wouldn't have met my amazing wife. I have lived on both coasts of the US as well as the South and the Midwest. When I retire in a couple of years, I will be traveling quite a bit more.

Wise man, Jefritrout!
Mainstream destinations are often rightly popular because of what they offer.

But don't forget the quirky, out of the way places that have strange customs & speak incomprehensible languages.
I loved Montenegro & Mauritius, for example. And I may well travel to other such places – Albania, Bhutan, the USA and the Faroes.

All the more reasons the suggested board should not be hidden away.

Travel is fun. I was in UK and Ireland last summer.

More and more I make a "game". This time it was fish and chips once a day and Warhammer stores I ran into: Cardiff, Dublin, Belfast, Edinburgh, and Warhammer World 😀

I went to Jordan recently. AWESOME place. Best of all was the solo guided tour of the tank museum. Its impressive.

Has this thread become a place for photography challenged Facebook posts?

I have had some wonderful travel experiences and some less pleasant. On the whole, + 1 for Zephyr1 in these troubled times.

Some folks have all the fun, like Ochoin. thumbs up

The past 30+ years, we haven't had the disposable income for traveling afar. The price of raising a family and being in and out of Christian ministry. We have done short staycations. Those have been fun.

Traveling does entail some measure of risk… grin

So does walking down the stairs.

You need money..and some endurance. Getting there is not my favorite part. I am cutting back in my 70s.

@Ochoin
Well, I was EAREN by Orcas the last time I traveled!
