I have some Blue Moon 15mm WSS French dragoons to be mounted on their horses, but I'm running into problems. First of all, there are no pistols or saddle holsters. Did French dragoons not carry them? Secondly, there is some kind of short shovel/axe (small flag?) combo provided separately, one for each trooper. Where is that supposed to go? Does anyone have experience with these figures? I feel like I'm putting together a puzzle. Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers!

No experience with these figures, but I can guess. I think French dragoons were issued one pistol, carried in the left holster (not totally sure about that), but on the right no holster was carried; instead a tool like an axe or a shovel like in this illustration.

Hello clibinarium,

Thanks much for the link. I will need to continue my research and put off the French dragoons for a bit. I believe you are probably correct about the placement of the pick, shovel or axe and also that it's likely the pistol was carried on the left side. I found another illustration here.

Interesting that the blade of the shovel is covered with what appears to be a cloth bag.

Cheers!
