Last month I had the pleasure of five days touring six battlefields between Nashville and Atlanta. These will be familiar to many readers of this forum but not to all. I've done a blog post, not as a comprehensive travelogue/guidebook, but as a taster to encourage others to explore this tract of territory that is so rich in Civil War History, hence I hope a light read and not too long:

Thanks, Chris..never have seen any of these in person. I have done all of the eastern big battlefields at least once, but have never thought about touring these. Interesting to see how they look today. The West deserves more of my attention, I think.

The diorama of the Battle of Franklin in the Carter House Visitor's Center is what got me into miniatures and eventually gaming. The first time I saw it was when it was originally displayed in a Franklin shop window in 1964, as part of the 100th anniversary events commemorating the battle.

A couple of years ago we did (as part of a.greater trip) Vicksburg, Bryce's crossroads, Tupelo, Nashville, Newmarket, Jackson's HQ during the Valley campaign (1862). Was great.

Cheers, chaps.

Tortorella: it was a similar story with me. So glad I made it further west. Shiloh and beyond still to come.

Extrabio1947: that's such a nice story and a tribute to the importance of such places.

Dave: that does sound great!

Well, you flew past Hoover's Gap as you headed from Nashville to Chattanooga. It was a small fight, Wilders Lighting Brigade against a CSA Division, but it played a part in the maneuvers that occurred after Stones River as the Union headed to Chattanooga. Played it out with BBB, 100 men to a stand and 4-6 guns for artillery.

Ah yes, the Tullahoma Campaign (he said, pretending to be knowledgeable). Actually I did note that Hoover's Gap was an unusual little action, but I didn't notice it when we actually cruised by.
