We've just finished our '24 Show game (The Sudan) & as the organisers have moved the '25 Show to July, it's time to start planning. A large Napoleonic game is a strong front runner. We are long-time Napoleonic gamers. About 18 months ago, we started using the V&F rules for "garage" games, using about a Corps a side. Good rules! The Show game would involve 2 sides (Austrians Vs French) with a French army of 2 Line Corps, a Guard Corps & a cavalry Corps against a similar number of Austrians. This would be a multi-player effort. How feasible is this? Would the game be best broken into separate but related games with 2 sets of cards? What other issues might we find? The alternative to V&F for us is Black Powder, which would certainly work. We like BP….but like V&F a little bit more. Advice welcome. |

I've only just read the rules, but the first thought I had was to give each corps commander a fate deck. |

That's sort of what I was wondering. But is that *too* much random stuff? |

Good point. Have the Corps commanders roll dice to see which one of them draws a card that turn? |

I very much like V&F rules. We web using them for an upcoming Battle of Wilsons Creek part of an ACW event at a local museum. While I'm sure that you will sort out the particulars on your napoleonic game I would add that we will be printing and giving away a handout of the QRS along with directions to the website for those interested to download the rules. V&F is a superb entry point vehicle for gaming groups to use to bring in new players to our hobby and I urge everyone to make the most of this opportunity. |

Bob, interesting…. how about this idea? The c-i-c eg Napoleon, draws cards as per the rules & then gives them to select Corps Commanders? Our big Show game may well have 3-4 players a side. Fitz, is your QRS different (superior? to the one on the website? How can I get one? A snarky person would say the rules are worth every cent they cost. I would say that although they're free, they're worth more than several commercial sets I've bought. |

ochoin, We are going to use the QRS on the website and print up a bunch of copies to give away with the links to the rules and army lists. Although I am still getting used to them I think that they are just perfect for introducing new players to gaming. |

The rules lost me on "fate deck." |

Ochoin, that'd be even better: a reflection of the C in C's influence over his troops. |

I would give every player Fate Cards. I like the idea of ochoin, that the CinC draws the cards for all players. Makes him important. I think one deck is enough, you could print two decks and mix them together. Remember you can also create your own cards for your scenario. |

" Remember you can also create your own cards for your scenario." Now that's something worth thinking about. "The rules lost me on "fate deck." If I called it a 'Destiny Deck' would that suit better? NB Napoleon, 'Man of Destiny'. The concept of Fate was, as you may not know, strong in Europe at the time. |

The game works perfectly well without the Fate cards. They just make things interesting without needing an umpire or special scenario. |
