If I had to guess what science-fiction weapon of war would be most likely to pop up in the real world, the Bolter from "Warhammer 40,000" would be low on my list. After all, this futuristic firearm chambers .75-caliber rounds and can only be fired by the barely human mutants of the Adeptus Astartes, the Space Marines. (Smaller versions are commonly carried by other folks, though.) In the new "Space Marine 2" video game, players get to punch through massive bugs and heavily armored space wizards with these things…

Yes I saw the same Military.com

Interesting … once again sci-fi becomes sci-fact …

I didn't get the impression they are mass reactive

I always thought that 40K Bolters were just ordinary Bullets.
Well, I abandoned 40k many editions ago, so what do I know?

They might be stub guns. ;-)
Whatever they are, if they follow the WH40K rules, they'll have very short range… ;-)

Zephyr you are correct … 40K ranges are designed so after the first turn or two. Everybody runs into CQB. 🤩

I know the US Army generally wants to engage enemy targets at longer ranges, before they close the range. 😎

Yes John I did the same. 40K is a game not a wargame … And appeals to many that like bright shiny things … 😃

Played too many wargames in my 60+ years old fart … 40K is not really a wargame, IMO …😱

Interesting idea. It looks a little less awkward than the M203, but you lose the rifle capability, which does matter for self defense at close range. Interesting to see the switch from 40mm to 30mm, too- presumably to improve the ammo load out.

I wonder if they will have flechette or shotgun rounds?

They rewrite their history with the change of newer suits in charge. IIRC the bolter did have a flechette or shot gun round.

If I recall my fluff the Bolter was more a gyrojet-type of round – though the 'bolts' were supposed to be explosive, but personally I think that's were the similarity ends.

At 30mm sounds a bit more like the g/l in Aliens.

Let's not forget the WFB chaos bolter.

It would be nice to see some rules eventuate for the old world. Maybe some upgrade or magic item for warriors of chaos.
