The corruption continues, political officers, Xi having trouble with graft…. link |

Interesting that its both public and the chief commissar – I guess selling promotions (not the first and probably not the last). Since Xi is increasingly operating as an autocrat with a cult of personality the problems of patronage are probably being baked in. |

Yes, for sure. And this means operational experience is not necessary for some. I wonder how a bunch of these guys would plan and execute an invasion of Taiwan? |

The Phillipines are quite close to Taiwan and we have been expanding our northern bases there. But the bluster is likely just that. These guys are not likely ready for a major operation. And their internal problems are not helping. |

The Chinese military is leaping ahead with tech and size but I don't fear their leadership. This is why. America's military has been in combat situations and regularly removes officers who are having command issues. |

I wonder how much corruption would manifest itself on day one of a war just like the Russian invasion of Ukraine? |
79thPA | 30 Nov 2024 12:58 p.m. PST |
I think corruption is mandatory in those types of regimes. Enforcement is a tool that is selectively used to deliver messages to others. |

Pete will need to fire all the DIE military people here also. Pete also is young enough to be the SD though the Vance years, the 16 years of Don Jr. and Eric and into Barron's election. |

Yes, Pete Hegseth will clean house and get the US Military back on track. Training will be based on war fighting skills, strategy, tactics, operations, techniques, history, etc. No CRT, No DEI, No Pronouns, No 🐮💩 … |

"Pete" and the gang have to walk the walk first. I do NOT mean his service record -in his case. How come Pete is great because he has military service and the Secretary of the Navy is great because he does not? I wish him well, despite what the press is dragging up about him, his mother, and whatever else. Fixing procurement alone is a life time project – hopefully Eric will stay out of the way! |

How come Pete is great because he has military I'm biased, get it. As I know something about being a Grunt and an officer. Besides he was in my same Regiment in the 101 I was but 20 years later … So yeah … that's why. However, I do think those assigned at those high positions that deal with the Military. Should have served … |

Reports are the Chicoms went silent. They maybe planning and preparing for something ….? In the general region the ROK's President declared martial law. Using the excuse to defend against the North. The civilians are rioting in the streets. LEOs and the Military are trying to keep the peace. And the ROK President may be impeached … |

Looks like South Korea wants to commit national suicide by electing a majority leftist Democratic Party to control of Parliament, who favor appeasing North Korea. Oh well, could be the Hermit Kingdom of Pyongyang may win after all as comfy spoiled South Korean K-pop dazzled youngsters led by Lefty Boomers lose track of the fact that the North wants to destroy them. |

Legion…you're not really biased, you have an informed opinion that makes sense. My point was that if you call Pete a great pick because of his military background, then call the Nav Sec a great pick because he has no military background, I am not gonna buy the later. |

Yes, I do think you should have some sort of military background for certain positions in the gov't. E.g. I may be wrong, but IIRC the woman overall in charge of the FDNY had never been a fireman. That sort of thing makes no sense to me. I may have to research this more.

It is beginning to sound like Pete was not vetted properly, not a good sign. A MAGA government is going to need people who can stand above the fray without this kind of baggage to keep its support from political centrists, IMO. |
35thOVI | 06 Dec 2024 3:40 a.m. PST |
Tort, they've elected Presidents with worse baggage…. And one at least, kept it up in office. 😉 👗 If we got rid of those who had drank and womanized in the past, we would be dam# short of politicians.. here and everywhere else. 😉 The biggest gripe most on the web have against Pete, is he worked on Fox. |

But both sides use this stuff and it leaves an impression, which explodes in the media. If his own mother wrote him a warning and it gets out, that seems invasive to me. But now the whole world knows in a day. As someone else said, most of us never had the police called on us, or heard such criticism from a mom. Again, invasive..but it does not play well for folks in the middle that I know. And the team should have known about this stuff, which means that he never advised them on it. My big concern is that the defense lobby, execs, and the Congressmen tied up in this will take him to the cleaners. The swamp is not them Dems. It's all-American. Nobody wants to drain it, they all want their turn in it. Pete's experience in the military is admirable. But we don't know how he will fare in political warfare and high level international strategic management. |

The author's introduction to "Stilwell and the American Experience in China" is a hilarious introduction to the problem of analyzing the Chinese as a military force. In it, Barbara Tuchman recounts how much she likes all things Chinese, and how she tried to follow where the facts led her- and then apologizes for having made the Chinese of the 1940s appear to be lousy soldiers, even though they were. Anyone wondering how far back the PC rot in the groves of academe goes could do worse than to start there. It's almost as funny as Henry Stimson's astonished lecture to the atomic bomb committee that he "didn't know" we were attacking civilians in Japan. |
