………..the Russia Ukraine war? link |

Ukraine is probably getting the feeling that Trump is not going to continue to feed them military support at the level they are getting now. That said, Russia will not agree to Ukraine becoming a NATO country. I read an article yesterday about large numbers of young Ukrainians actively avoiding military service and staying inside so they don't get rounded up by recruiting units. If a significant number of young people don't have the will to fight for their own country, it is just a matter of time before the war ends in Russia's favor. They will play the attrition game until whoever is left in Ukraine demands that the country cease hostilities. |

Sebastian Gorka, Trump's nominee for head of counter terrorism said a few days ago regarding Trump's plan was to pressure Zelensky to negotiate and for Putin: "He [Trump] will say to that murderous former KGB colonel, that thug, who runs the Russian Federation: you will negotiate now or the aid that we [the US] have given to Ukraine thus far will look like peanuts. That's how he will force those gentlemen [Zelenskyy and Putin] to come to an arrangement that stops the bloodshed." |

Or in Diplo-speak, a Korean style DMZ patrolled/manned by NATO forces. Putin could probably live with that. |

I have said that before as well as others in the media. I think setting up a DMZ as in Korea. Manned by UN troops to keep the "peace" so to speak. Of course, many UN forces are in NATO as well. As I have said, I served 22 months with a forward deployed Mech Bn of the 2ID. Had 2 tours on the DMZ. This situation has gone on since the truce that ended hostilities in 1953. And we have been running the DMZ mission ever since. It works in Korea. It could work in this situation in Ukraine. |

Gorka! The pain relief supplements tv sales guy. Doesn't Putin already want to negotiate…ah, forget it. I'm sure Trump will use those same tough guy words next time he calls Putin. Not.. |

Putin will want to end this because he needs the troops for Georgia. He cannot be reasoned with. Any peace in Ukraine needs to make sure he doesn't come again. The UN are WOFTAM. |

Raids in Moscow nightclubs to pick up suitable young men for the war effort. link link link My guess is that all those who can bribe their way out will do so. Those that cannot will be cannon fodder. So not necessarily a raid to increase the number of troops more likely a operation to line the pockets of the police involved with bribe money. |

@Tort, very true. But there is a distinct psychological difference in avoiding military service to invade another country as opposed to avoiding military service to protect your own country after it has been invaded. An article today discusses the large desertion problem within the Ukrainian armed forces after 3 years of warfare. Entire units have reportedly gone home. Regardless of who is in the Whitehouse, I don't know how long a country can survive when a lot of it's military age people have lost the will to fight. Russia can find enough bodies to win the war of attrition. |
