Do you guys do a single thin coat or multiple thin coats on your figures?

Painting 6mm and using Windsor & Newton varnish.

JimDuncanUK27 Nov 2024 9:29 a.m. PST

Left, right, turn figures 90 degrees, left, right, turn figures 90 degrees, left, right, turn figures 90 degrees, left, right, leave to dry.

I'm with Jim. It's usually Krylon Matte with me, though.

I agree with above. I use Krylon Fusion Flat. I thought the Matte was still too shiny compared to Testors Dullcoat.

I'm more inclined to right to left turn figures 180 degrees and repeat.

Let dry overnight.

Next day repeat with the 90 degree turns every 10 minutes and finish up with a downward spray.

I had a very bad experience with Dullcoat back about the Mesolithic. And I know castings who've had their Krylon Matte regularly renewed for 60 years. I do paint buttons, gorgets and swords afterwards, though.

What Jim said, but three 120 degree turns. "One" coat though. Wacky Japanese Mr. Super Clear Matt FTW.

Hitman27 Nov 2024 3:14 p.m. PST

The same as Jim. Let dry then hit it with Testors dullcote to diminish any sheen.

I use Windsor & Newton matte but yup, Several coats.

Several light coats, definitely.

I apply a gloss coat, and let it dry. Then several matte coats to kill the shine. Then as the figures are used, when they start to get shiny again, I hit them with a matte again.

Thanks everyone!

Did what was recommended and besides the protective value, the WN matte varnish really enhances the color.

I use Vallejo paints and the varnish really adds to the aesthetics.

I go left to right, right to left and spray evenly over the top, I use a nice shiny heavy gloss..I like my figures to shine😎
