" What's this? A proper miniatures wargame in Casa de Ski? It's been a while, that's for sure. Zig and I got together Saturday afternoon for a game of Infinity. I put some of those recently painted Starco minis on the table for a first go against Z's ever-present Pan Oceana military orders. I set the table up for a 300-point, 48 x 48 Domination scenario set at the maintenance area of spacecraft landing strip. There are four Consoles (marked in the picture) at which players can earn extra points if they successfully interact with them…"

This is a post that brings out the curmudgeon in me.

Admittedly, I am all curmudgeon…

Not everything with the word 'spacecraft' is Spaceship Gaming.

No shade on Ski's work, mind you!

How popular is this game? I have to admit that I had never heard of it until my publisher published a novel set in that universe.

I don't think those are all the same Infinity, Armand.

However, Scott, while I didn't see much locally as we would have carried it, I do remember a fair amount of buzz on personal sites and some fora.

Not sure about here as I tend towards vacchead, and TMP has separate space vs ground.

It's pretty popular, and an alternative to Warhammer 40k if you are competitively minded. The cost is lower for the "army" but more expensive for the amount of terrain you will need. So…relatively equal I guess? Infinity tends to be played at someone's house as opposed to your local game store. The main reason for this is the fact that it's extremely terrain dependent, and extremely lethal. You command a squad of troops which act independently and which generate a pool of actions which can be used by anyone in the squad and any trooper can use as many as you want until you spend them all. If you have a heavy machine gunner and he has clear line of sight to your opponents whole squad, he could eliminate that whole squad in one activation potentially, game over. You need A LOT of terrain and LOS terrain blocking features, this generally precludes gaming at your local store to avoid hogging all of the terrain. Your average game takes about and hour or two, and you could easily get 3 games in the same time as an average 40K game.
