Question. I have the Perry militia in shirtsleeves (wearing weskits) However, some bloke keeps insisting this never happened. I am not doubting the Perry's were they got this information, but does anyone know where they got documentation for not having coats on. I have reenacted in the nice SC heat at Brattonsville and I can say in the sun at 110 degrees plus humidity I don't see why someone would wear one. Especially of dying from heat exhaustion. Thanks.

I remember reading about the Carolinas Campaign in which more than a few American troops were "clothed" in tatters more akin to the garb of Ben Gunn than any kind of uniform.

It reached about 100 degrees during the Battle of Monmouth, and continentals stripped down to their waistcoat and shirtsleeves.
