How do you say in Attic Greek, "See? I wasn't making it up!"

Amazing what modern archaeology is uncovering.

So the archeologists have discovered Thonis? Send for a (much younger) Indiana Jones!

Yeah, Herodotus is generally an accurate reporter for his own time and place. The stuff he gets beaten up about--Pharoh's daughter soliciting materials for the pyramids, gold-hoarding ants and such--was long ago or far away even for him. The only contemporary issue which still raises controversy is the size of Xerxes' army. If anyone finds a way to settle that one, phone the Journal of Hellenic Studies, Slingshot and me.

To be fair to Herodotus, he would often say, but not always, "Here's some crazy Bleeped text I heard about!"

Fascinating find. It's always amazing when archaeology matches the written record, especially for things we haven't encountered anywhere but in the text.

Ἴδε, οὐκ ἐψεύσατο.

That is more, "see, he didn't lie." A bit different connotation.

I trusted Google Translate. 🤷
