Battle of Antietam ( Sharpsburg ) 17th September 1862

Timeline 11.30AM

Overview of the general situation looking North.

The Confederate sunken lane position has collapsed and the remnants are being pursued by the Union Brigadier General William French's Third Division into the Piper cornfield.

Meanwhile, an emboldened Union Brigade from the First Division, Second Corps Major General Israel B. Richardson commanding, has attempted to outflank the Piper cornfield putting further pressure on this sector.

Major General Sumner is attempting to get his forces ‘ en potence' along the Smoketown road, but with great difficulty, as a large section of his command melts away.

A newly invigorated General Lafayette Mc Laws is carrying all before him as his Division tears into the retreating Union forces.

General Lee oversees the redeployment of Confederate artillery to the Hagerstown Pike, overlooking the Piper farm in an attempt to stem the Union advance.

Brigadier General Alfred Pleasanton has authorised an excursion across the Antietam creek middle bridge in order to assist the Union Third Divisions advance.

Union Cavalry under Captain SBM Young along with horse artillery support are moving along the Boonstown Pike, past the toll house towards the bridge.

General Lee has few reserves left and a new assault on the Rhorbach bridge is beginning develop, to add to the pressure on his beleaguered command.

As stated before this is not a diorama, it is a re fight.

I am currently progressing the next move for the 11.45 AM. update.

Thank you to Dye for minis but the battle is taking place in my garage, in the U.K.
