This is episode one of the new Martin Scorsese series now running on the Fox Nation streaming service.

This show is a dramatic reenactment of Joan of Arc's life, narrated by Martin Scorsese, followed by a panel discussion with Martin and several experts. 46 minutes.

Given that this show's focus is Catholic saints, the show combines history with matters of faith. Joan is depicted as someone who sincerely believes she hears voices of three saints, and acts faithfully on what she believes are her instructions.

The discussion notes that Joan is different from most other saints, in that she was a warrior, and that she was condemned by the church initially, only to be canonized 500 years later.

The show does not examine alternate theories for Joan's spiritual experiences.

Within the limited time-length and budget, I thought the show was quite well done. Filmed in Serbia.

I've been to Rouen and visited the Joan of Arc memorial. It's worth a visit.

It's a Papist plot I tell you!!!

She wasn't condemned but railroaded by politically motivated French & Burgundian bishops. She was vindicated 20 years after her execution.

Thank you for the recommendation! Should satisfy my interest in both the faith and the history side.

Her death was politically expedient.

I will try to watch these, on my antique browsers and laptop, if I don't have to subscribe to anything. I have an abiding fascination with Joan (plus she's my confirmation saint). I will object to any lazy, uninformed scholarship, editorializing, or modern conceits pretending to be historical analysis. There are already a number of modern documentaries available, ranging from good to sloppy.

PS: to Louis XIV -- I, too have visited many of the places connected with Joan's life, on a splendid holiday in 2001, when my wife and I drove a hired car on a vast pilgrimmage. Orleans, Chinon, Ste. Catherine de Fierbois, Domremy, Vaucouleurs, Reims, Rouen -- and she turned up elsewhere when you didn't even expect to find her.

Hmm, well, for some unknown reason, even after logging in and changing my IMDb password, I can't watch any of these, -- not sure what the problem is, but no way to locate any "Watch Now" or "Play" tab! I couldn't even generate a page demanding I pay or subscribe to anything! All I could view was the series trailer. Which, frankly, looked less than amazing. A lot of odd looking reenactments produced in eastern Europe and featuring actors from that area, judging from the names. I've seen plenty enough of those on old cable TV channels. If I am never able to access these new ones, shrug.
