I am creating a Later Moorish army for DBA3 in 6mm. I have seen the figures for Light cavalry from Baccus which I will use for the bulk of the cavalry. However, the General's element can be ‘cavalry' (Cv). Any idea if these would have been clothed and equipped any differently than their lighter brethren? |

For that era, I would recommend either Baccus Late Roman CAV, Goth Heavy Cav. It seems likely that the body guards/general's special unit would copy the supposed best forces of the era or even be mercenaries or deserters from them. You could use the banner from those sets. Colors would be the rest of the army if portraying as up armored locals or in Late Roman/Goth colors if portraying as deserters. as well. Also, you may want to sprinkle in some of the Late Roman Light Cavalry (ALR7) among your light cavalry as this was the type that was spreading across the region at the time. |

Rakkasan that was my first thought but I thought I'd check first. Thanks for answering so quickly. |

I'd leave the Goth (or Vandal) influences for the 5th and 6th centuries. The draco may be okay for the earlier period as it could have been introduced after contact with the Sarmatians but a vexilla would be just as likely. I'd go with Roman cavalry – perhaps the Late Roman Light Cavalry as they are a bit more irregular in pose. Their shields are bigger than Roman Mauri cavalry units have going by 2nd or 3rd c. gravestones. Otherwise, either the Early or Late Roman heavy cavalry. The general might have a beard – even if he is following Roman fashion, they were in vogue for much of the time. |

I dug out some Late Roman Heavy Cavalry from the lead pile. I'll change theDraco for something more appropriate. |
