Soft plastic -- yes.

Anything else -- never.

Yes, always.

I only do hard plastic. Never wash, never had a problem.

Only the soft plastics.

I wash everything: metals, plastics, resins, and prime everything.

Only resin buildings and 3D printed stuff.

Almost always wash metal figures – removes the filing dust and grease from handling. Don't do plastics.

Martin Rapier15 Nov 2024 9:31 a.m. PST

No. I don't even bother to wash soft plastics. A good coat of undiluted PVA seems to sort out any grease on those.

Lester15 Nov 2024 9:42 a.m. PST

never have for 40 years. All my miniatures, plastic and metal, still hold their paint just fine

Pretty much always. Probably not always necessary except for resin and soft plastic but over the years I have had the odd flaking issues and it doesn't really add much time and effort.

I wash both plastic and metal. Hot water, dawn dish liquid, scrub with an old toothbrush, hot water rinse.

Grattan54 Supporting Member of TMP15 Nov 2024 10:52 a.m. PST

Nope. Never had any problems.

Michael May Supporting Member of TMP15 Nov 2024 11:25 a.m. PST

Yep, with dish washing liquid and an old toothbrush. Removes talc, finger oil and metal dust from filing seam lines and flash. I give 'em a good scrubbin'.

ZULUPAUL Supporting Member of TMP15 Nov 2024 12:18 p.m. PST

Never have done that & had no problems.

Always wash with a bit of soap and warm prior to priming. I typically do some filing to remove mold lines as well as general handling of the miniatures. I would like as clean of a surface as possible for the primer to adhere onto.
