Did something a little different from my usual 28mm army painting. Finally, after years of wanting to do it, got my hands on large-scale, 75mm 3D printed characters from the 1977 Rankin Bass animated edition of 'The Hobbit.'

There had been a number of 3D printed ranges out there devoted to The Hobbit, but none that were actual copies of the characters as they appear in the animated film.

So far I've gotten two goblins, the Great Goblin, Thorin Oakenshield, and Bilbo Baggins.

Of those I've painted all the goblins so far.

These were all done with a combination of Citadel Contrasts, Army Painter Speedpaints, and Vallejo Xpress Colors for base coats, followed by layers of dry brushes with traditional mini. paints. Finally a fair amount of outlining was done using shading inks and/or specifically chosen Contrasts or Speedpaints.

Wow. This new tech could be a lot of fun, but an IP owner's worst nightmare, as well. Ain't technology great? LOL! Cheers!
