Most hobbies are obsessions. I know a beautiful, intelligent woman who collects buttons.

I'm with the OFM. Why does it have to be a choice? Shagnasty's right.

Obsession is an unhealthy and bad thing if ot is being used in the correct meaning (see spectacular gmae).
If it became an obsession i would get help to stop doing it.
Otherwise family, job, exercise and friends might suffer.

Hobby . pastime, enjoyment is what i am seeking.

I often think it is just a hobby but then I look around at all the unpainted figures I have and I keep buying more…

Titchmonster12 Nov 2024 10:25 a.m. PST

All of the above! Plus a strain on the wallet and the wife!

I'd like to apologise. Once I'd written the title for this post I realised I'd written one of those clickbait titles you see on YouTube channels

Does the author not understand that blog titles can be edited? It's about as far from graven in stone as writing can be.

Most hobbies are obsessions. I know a beautiful, intelligent woman who collects buttons.

If it's just random, everyday buttons then that's an obsession, possibly a compulsion. If it's certain kinds of buttons, it's a collection. But seriously, every month I encounter (via auction houses) at least one spectacular and unexpected collection that I have zero interest in, but still appreciate the dedication. We may shake our heads at the renowned surgeon and his wife who had several thousand sad irons (true story), but we are thankful for Anne S.K. Brown and her military collection.

Part of the hobby is collecting. I don't get bent out of shape about unpainted miniatures. Never even a flicker of regret.

For me, it represents future options.
