One of the games at this weekend's meeting of the Devon Wargames Group saw me running out the small ship collection to refight a famous action that resulted in the capture of the 40-gun French frigate Minerva by the 28-gun and 32-gun frigates Dido and Lowestoffe.

The surviving members of the two crews of these two British frigates were awarded a clasp to the Naval General Service Medal in 1847 indicating the merit that this action accorded to those involved, and our game proved equally hard fought if seeing some quite different outcomes.
