"The ambush is one of the longest-standing fighting tactics of all time, using the element of surprise to overpower the enemy. This style of attack is said to date back millions of years, with anthropologists suggesting early humans used the tactic to hunt large game. From cavemen using this type of strategy to hunt down woolly mammoths all the way to Army Rangers flushing out enemies, the ambush has proved to be a devastating call in the soldier's playbook. An ambush is one of the most terrifying situations that a soldier can experience on the battlefield. However, while the casualty rate in these situations is often very high, it's important to note that there are a number of ways to avoid being ambushed and for those on the wrong side to fight back. That's why we wanted to pull back the curtain on how a modern ambush works, how the armed forces plan and execute an ambush, and how troops can defend themselves from an incoming ambush situation…" Main page link

The lesson plans on different ground oriented ambushes are better. The classes on ambushes were in the Military Science 301 and 302 courses. Practical exercises were held on the weekend and Ranger prep classes in those semesters. When I got to Army Officer Basic courses we focused on mounted ambush operations. Vital was coordination with aviation and GSR assets. |

mounted ambush operations Very interesting – did you make the horses lay down? how did you keep them from neighing/snorting? |

When we are in cavalry and armored training, the terms mounted means on the vehicle and ground is dismounted. As cavalry we had mortars and an infantry quad in each platoon as well as scouts. So we had to train for both. AFV supporting infantry with Sheridans would produce a nasty kill zone withe the Beehive rounds. No horses involved.. however we did have our own helicopter element which made any kill zone big. |

Ambushing is not a fair and balanced tactic and should not be used in a game <grin> Ambushed troops automatically assaulting towards ambusher Only if they pass their activation roll. Wolfhag |
