Hi guys

I'm really a modeller/collector, not a wargamer as such, but I enjoy making wargaming units, rather than single display pieces, my favourite period being WWII, lends itself to this type of collecting, however I have struggled with this approach when it comes to my second favourite period, Napoleonics, the numbers of figures and room they take makes it difficult for me to collect, throw on top the fact I paint around 4000 Napoleonic figs a year for other people, which fills in that urge to paint those colourful Napoleonics, so my projects have never really got off the ground, leading to many stalled projects.

As a kid, I remember finding a miniature painting book at the library which concentrated on large Napoleonics, I think they were 54mm, and have always wanted a collection of 54mm Napoleonics, but for various reason had never built the collection.

As a 3D printer owner, I had often wondered about printing Napoleonics at 54mm, but finding STL files good enough to blow up to 54mm was hard, however, I have found Piano wargames and tried some of their figures blown up to 54mm, whilst they have that slight wargaming chunkiness I think they look pretty good at 54mm, so have started the collection, they also do my 2 favourite nations, Bavaria and Württemberg, with the Württemberg light infantry being one of my favourite units of the period, here I have started with Württemberg light infantry and grenadier gardes, I will do an officer, musician, a couple of musketeers/fusiliers/grenadiers, an NCO and maybe a standard bearer for each troop type.

Here's some pics with 28mm and 15mm Napoleonics for comparison.

Good looking models! I could never paint things that large – they just take so much work per model. Good luck and looking forward to seeing the progress.

I use Hat Industrie's 1/32 figures for my Wurttembergers. They won't look as nice as yours, but they are a lot easier to paint. I look forward to seeing your work.

You picked a very good manufacturer for your Napoleonics. I have and really like the exquisite sculpting of their 28mm metal figures.

I print and sell a lot of 54mm miniatures. My nappies are designed by BlackCat Miniatures.

I find that stl's designed for 28mm scale up very well. I use a multiplier of "175".

54mm Nappy – hard core! I have about 40 which I use for display

I'd never do it (well…) but I do like to see wargames played in 54mm, they look totally amazing.

These figures are very detailed – if I was doing something like this I'd probably go for something easier to paint (like the HaT figure, except it'd be Ancients. Not that I'm thinking about it 😄).

But….I'm interested to see what your units look like, I think it could be awesome.

The figures look great – for my 54mm Napoleonics I have a mix of Airfix, Hat and Call to Arms plastics plus metals from AQM and del Prado.

But I do have over 500 painted figures – units of 12 inf or 8 cavalry.

3d printing will be interesting to see if I can use it to fill gaps in a possible Austrian force at some point.

Thank you for your beautiful pictures confirming how good Piano Wargames 3D figures scalled-up to 1/32 look. I have been wondering about this since I first saw their website.

Best of luck in your 1/32 efforts!
