Mentioned this on another thread a while back and never got a a response so trying again. The central brace running down Caesarean shields would it have been left as plain wood or painted the main color of the shield. I've seen them done both ways by gamers and by re-enactment groups. Alternatively, is it no one knows/could be both, so please yourself? |

Noone knows, just fragments of artwork which may or may not be accurate, like so much of what passes for information on Ancient "uniforms" . Later Roman shield designs are better documented. |

Ah! Much as I suspected. Might come down to practical considerations then. Find a suitable wood(ish) hue or come up with Red that's fairly close to LBMS transfers. Then of course there's the matter of the Boar emblem that's split on both sides of the brace. Oh Dear! 🤔 Never seen any one bother with that in 1:1 or 28mm. Two halves for that, me thinks! |
